Its Begun! Chilly rain, snow showers to overtake midwestern US this weekend !
Rounds of chilly rain showers that can be joined by wet snowflakes will rotate through the Midwest this weekend.

Those hoping for a long stretch of dry, sunny and cool autumn weather to coincide with the weekend in the Midwest will have to wait a while longer.

A warm coat, hat and even gloves, along with a plastic rain poncho, may be best friends for those spending time at football games or fall festivals this weekend.

At the start of the weekend, the air will be too warm to allow snow to fall over most of the Midwest.

However, as the weekend progresses and the atmosphere gets colder, rain may become mixed with snowflakes or perhaps completely change to wet snow in a few locations.

The jet stream is forecast to plunge southward and briefly become encircled over the region. Such a pattern not only brings chilly air near the ground but also traps cold air high above in the atmosphere.

Riding along with the jet stream dip and eventual close-off will be a small, but vigorous storm. That storm is forecast to travel from the northern Plains on Saturday night to the middle Mississippi Valley on Sunday and the Ohio Valley during Sunday night.

A swath of steady, chilly rain is in store as this small storm moves along.

Near and just north of the path of this little storm is where there is the best chance of a narrow zone of wet snow.
