UPDATE: All 189 Onboard Lion Air Flight JT610 Believed Dead After Boeing-737 Max 8 Suddenly Plunges Into Sea
"All 189 people on board the ill-fated Indonesian Boeing 737 MAX 8 plane, which crashed in the sea on Monday, have “likely” died, search and rescue officials announced.

“I predict there are no survivors, based on body parts found so far,”

The official stated that the operation to locate and recover the wreckage continues.

If indeed no survivors are found, this would be the second-deadliest commercial aviation incident in Indonesian history. In 1997, an Airbus A300B4, operated by Garuda Indonesia, crashed into mountainous terrain, killing all 234 people on board.
The aircraft was brand new and considered among the most advanced planes in the airline’s fleet, as were the first Boeing 737 MAX 8s that were delivered to Lion Air a little more than a year ago."

"We are downloading and processing granular ADS-B data that was transmitted by the aircraft, but preliminary data show an increase in speed and decrease in altitude at last transmission. #JT610"

"An aircraft operated by the Indonesian low-cost airline Lion Air has crashed while on a domestic flight from Jakarta, the country's rescue agency confirms.

The jet lost contact with air traffic control some 13 minutes into the flight, and crashed into the sea.

188 people, including crew, were on board a plane when it crashed, a transport ministry official said.

Flightradar24 says preliminary flight data shows a drop in the plane's altitude and increase in speed before the transmission was cut.

The plane appears to have plunged into the sea just off the coast of Indonesia, the data provided by the service shows. It was reportedly at an altitude of 3,650 feet (about 1,112m) when the signal was lost.

Flight JT610 is operated by a Boeing-737 Max 8, capable of seating up to 210 passengers."

"A vessel traffic service officer in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, Suyadi, told The Jakarta Post that at 6:45 a.m. he received a report from a tugboat, AS Jaya II, that the crew had seen a downed plane, suspected to be a Lion Air plane, in Tanjung Bungin in Karawang, West Java.

"At 7:15 a.m. the tugboat reported it had approached the site and the crew saw the debris of a plane," Suyadi said. As of 9 a.m. there was no report about passengers or the plane crew, he said.

Two other ships, a tanker and a cargo ship, near the location were approaching the site, he said, and a Basarnas rescue boat was also on the way."

Damn.

New plane too. Less than a year old. This is the same type plane/engine that had the engine failure (twice) with Southwest. Remember, the one that broke the window and sucked that poor lady half way out?

Lion Air = the Indonesian version of a flying Greyhound Bus. Not the first time they've had problems.

Plane was delivered in August of this year. A user on A.net remarked how Lion Air is on their "ban list". They won't fly them. Their craft are in working order but the pilots training is supposedly terrible...

The radar data showed they were probably having some control issues prior to the final crash.

The plane involved was a Boeing Co 737 Max-8 model. The aircraft is believed to be just two months old, and a significantly updated version over older 737 models.

Brand spanking new craft, weather doesn't appear to be a factor. It's early of course but the erratic ascending and descending could chalk this up to human error. Terrible...

Edit: unless there was a struggle, a hijacking of the plane verysad

If they lost all hydraulics that would lead to porpoising. That's unlikely with a new plane, unless there was an explosion.
