.
... I grew up on a dairy farm middle of wisconsin ...
.
... sis and I went to college to get teaching degrees ...
.
... neither of us married farmers ...
.
... our brother did take over the farm BUT in the course of time sold it ...
.
... fewer and fewer people are needed to PRODUCE food stuffs so the "excess" of peeps must find something else to do ...
.
... and that is easy because agriculture is a 25/7 occupation ...

I think with America's economic reset coming that will be one of the most painful adjustments.... decentralizing agriculture back to families in the Kingdom age on earth from mega corporations....

We are booming here in N.Idaho. Our local elementary school is full this year. Housing here is booming. Growth is off the charts here. People are leaving big cities if they can and headed to the country. I am talking about Couer d Alene, Sandpoint, Postfalls and Rathdrum Idaho.

It's sad what they're doing to the panhandle. Athol school is probably the best at hands on for kids. Hayden absolutely sucks. That damned NAFTA highway they put through there has wiped out the mom and pops but hey, they now have a Super 1.

the farmer was the core of the nation. Owning land and developing it to pass on to future generations. We didn't poison our land or our families. Now corporate farming has taken over and it's profits = poisons. They don't care, it's only $ that matters. We are destroying our land, polluting our waters. The corporate model can only end in mass starvation due to monoculture practices.

We actually stopped in Goodland Kansas this summer and went downtown to a store.

VIRTUALLY THE ONLY YOUNG CHILDREN WE SAW WERE LATINO MEXICAN.

Yes I know the hog plants and tyson chicken processing plants are where many of these Latinos are willing to take jobs, but the fact is there are not whites even available to fill those jobs from a demographic standpoint.

Roe V Wade?
Condoms?
The Pill?
Too much TV?
Soy Boys with estrogen?

These are seemingly the new face of W. Kansas in a big new way.

The demographics are changing as the elderly white farmers drive the Monsatan chemical sprayers into the sunset.

The windfarms also dotting the landscape are a new feature of the past 10 years.

Corporate farms

Family stores withered as locals patronized elsewhere.
Mines closed.
Family farmers sold or pushed out.

Also generational, in the sense that children won't take over family business...

It's corporatization of farms that's the problem. Family farms can't compete and health insurance costs a fortune so the only viable options are urban areas where at least one person in the family can work in a corporate job for the sake of providing health insurance to the rest. But in urban areas you simply can't live on one income, especially if you are a young family. Because of the costs of raising a family these days--some daycare but even if one parents stays home you still have the costs of health care, buying kids cars so you can go do your job to keep healthcare, sending kids to college, and paying for a zillion sports camps and sports-related trips so you have the breadth of experience to get into college. At the same time these young parents are paying off student loans well past 50! They simply cannot afford to have kids now.

The flat lands of Kansas lend themselves well to corporate farms for sure. Many a family has woken up to the shocking smell of new hog farm enterprises drifting their way too.... great "boost" to property values (not)

That clean bracing, Marijuana smell, on the other hand:

"According to new research published in the July 2018 issue of Economic Inquiry, legalizing retail sales of marijuana in Colorado increased housing values by about 6%—or an average of $15,600 per house."

Nobody wants to smell hog shit, the other shit is another matter.

School districts are collapsing because of a huge money sucking bureaucracy where there are more jobs for do-nothing administrators than teachers.

A few years ago the average funds per student given to public schools was $10K per student. For a 20 kid classroom that's $200K per year--that's plenty to pay rent and hire a damn good teacher. Problem is not funding or lack of students. Problem is they need to fire most of the soul sucking bureaucrats.

I have to wonder if that has long term staying power though. Not to mention in Kansas we're still on the "barely medical legal" side of the issue. Seeing more and more CBD shops and products being thrown around so who knows.

Kansas is still one of the most strict when it comes to alcohol, having just in the last year passed laws allowing the sale of full strength alcohol in grocery stores/gas stations. Until then it was our own peculiar oddity to have only 3.2% beer here unless you went to the liquor store.

The reason I bring that up is even if marijuana is legalized nationwide, Kansas will likely be a state to try and limit it's sale as much as possible, likely through making the sales licenses hard to get or through a high tax (using the same logic as for other sin tax increases the last few years).

In the age where young people gain influence from all over the world via the internet, it is easy for them to no longer feel culturally acceptable in a state that has these viewpoints on what is now "okay". This could be a reason for a flight away from the state in general, and particularly from farms.

If they like near beer they should try low THC hemp, which will still smell better than a hog lagoon.

[link to www.hpj.com]

"Some of the farmers growing hemp have found profit in three primary markets: grain, fiber and cannabidiol—or CBD, which is seen by many as a health aid, Burchett said.

This hemp-derived extract has the biggest profit margin, he said, showing figures that farmers are receiving an average $7.20 a pound. About 30 percent of Kentucky farmers are growing hemp for CBD and 30 percent are growing hemp for both CBD and grain.
