One of the final paragraphs of the book:

"On Tuesday, January 5, 2027, the news programs opened their informations with a spectacular news: «A comet is approaching the Earth ... It is the new star of Belen".
That evening, Stare and Yuri left the cabin, in the vicinity of the Dantayaco ravine, and they looked out at the sky.
And they shuddered ...
Gog had arrived. It was already visible to the naked eye.
The solar wind tousled him and a long red and blue hair covered part of the firmament.
The Korean, scared, hugged her friend and lamented between sobs:
- Eight months! ... Eight months to go!
Stare consoled her:

The context of this scene is that the two Astrophycisist that scaped alive after knowing about Gog, went to live in the Colombian Amazonas as a safe place, and waited there for 9 years hidden from the US intelligence agencies, and hoping this to be a place where they could survive the impact of Gog.

I've been making random fact checking on the book details, as far as I have time to.

Of course they don't mean much, as anyone could have found these things online so they don't prove or disprove anything other than that JJ Benitez, a prolific writer, is quite creative at the moment of selecting tidbits to create the plot of his books.

As JJ Benitez admited himself in at the end of the book stating that he introduced on purpose 17 "mistakes" (probably better understood as "red herrings")in order to lower the credibility of his tale, these facts that check with reality serve to better understand the background against which the book was wrote.

One of the Astronomical instruments that is named in the book is mentioned to be at Cerro Tololo Chilean Observatory, where the main character Stare works. This is called the "Dark Energy Camera", and is with this instrument that Stare verifies the coordinates of Gog given to her by Kurt Birke.

In Real Life, the Cerro Tololo observatory indeed has an instrument that is called Dark Energy Camera (acronym DECam), which is coupled to a 4 meter diameter telescope, and is extremely sensitive to infrared light, so it's able to detect objects that are very far and emit or reflect scant radiation.

It is also perfectly usable for detection of asteroids, and very powerfull at that, too, albeit it was not build for that, but for the search of the mythical dark energy.

The ultra secret time travelling USAF led "operation trojan horse" used the technology to research the life of Jesus of Nazareth. This is the premise of all JJ Benitez Trojan Horse books, Trojan Horse 1 to 9, and later the "Day of the Lightning" which is the story of Major "Jason" after his time travelling missions ended, 1973. In that book is the first hint of what later would become the main plot of "GOG, the countdown begins". After reviewing quickly both Operation Trojan Horse 9 and the day of the Lightning, I realize that Benitez suggests that was the same major "Jason" who delivered the knowledge of Gog to the character "Kurt Birke".

The time travel was aboard a ship that for all intent and purposes can be assimilated to an Apollo landing module, with a crew of two. One of the crew was to remain at all times in the module and the other was the on foot operative that would interact with Jesus joining him in his everyday life and travels.

Benitez alleges that this major was profoundly changed by his interaction with Jesus, and that is what prompted him to write his journal of the time travel expeditions, then to hide these journals in several places, and later contact Benitez as an investigative journalist to entice him to discover the journals, which then became each of the 11 books of the series.

At such an incredible velocity it would cover that 150 AU distance in just a matter of a few years. If the sun's gravity were treated as negligible for such an object, it would mean that it would be at a distance of 150 AU no earlier than about 2020 if my math is right. If the sun's gravity is included it would be at 150 AU slightly later than that in order to hit earth in August 2027. Our current detection systems for finding asteroids are generally limited to about magnitude 21 or so at best (for example, see asteroid 2018 VX1, passed earth this weekend discovered at magnitude 21 and was also observed by Cerro Tololo [link to www.minorplanetcenter.net (secure)] ). At a distance of 150 AU, an asteroid with an apparent magnitude of 21 would have an absolute magnitude H of -0.77 by my calculations. If the reflectivity (albedo) is 4% we can solve for the diameter.

Diameter = (1329/Sqrt(albedo))*10^(-0.2*H)

In this case that equals a diameter of 9,473 km. That's not an asteroid, nor is it a comet, it's a planet midway between the size of Mars and Earth.

*I now see you mention it was magnitude 19.5 at discovery at the coordinates you mentioned? That makes the claim even more ridiculous. So I was being too generous by assuming it to be as dim as magnitude 21. So now the absolute magnitude H becomes -2.3 and the diameter becomes 19,164 km. It's now 50% wider than earth itself. I can command an iTelescope to image those coordinates down to that magnitude if you want, but I promise it will just be a waste of my money. The author claims this is real? His handwaving about deliberately adding "mistakes" sounds like a cover his ass excuse to keep claiming it's real every time an inconsistency or absurdity of his story is pointed out.

Other things I have found out after trying to figure out where did JJ Benitez came up with the date of August 29th,2027 as the date of impact of asteroid Gog:

- In "Operation Trojan Horse 9", is talked about a frequency signal that Earth emits in one of 12 "portals". This frequency when decoded is a constant string of numbers 29082027. This frequency was found during the time travels to ancient Galilea and is allegedly still being broadcast.

- Perhaps as a ultra condensed summary of who Jesus of Nazareth was, according to the Operation Trojan Horse books, one can say Jesus is a Great Master send to Earth to teach us universal truths. But he is an interdimensional being (he sees time as a whole) and during his life he was constantly followed, perhaps protected and assisted also, by "craft" that were technologically way beyond our comprehension, and were impervous to the scanning instruments of the "time travel" ship. Jesus was perfectly aware of who the USAF major "Jason" was, and seemed glad of his presence. He acted as if he also had expected to meet with the USAF Astronauts/chrononauts.

-Benitez also suggests that the infinite post decimal figures of Pi are a code of sorts, and has also tried to "decode" it, he also seems to have found a way to get some useful predictions out of this alleged code, and the 29 / 08 / 2027 date is also encoded there.

Well, thanks for killing all the fun!!! (Just Kidding). I really appreciate your input. I was sure that so bold claims were probably hollow, and also that Benitez had given himself too much wiggle room with his "17 purposeful errors included to detract of the credibility of the book.

So, now I see the claims about the size, magnitude, speed and distance of the alleged asteroid are incompatible with truth. Will be very fun to go onto the book forums and casually droping these, with all due credit. Is a shame that Benitez's books are not more popular in the Anglo Parlant World, they are as entertaining as outlandish.

Is just 9 years in the future, and frankly I'm not all optimist we will ever get there, at least in good shape, and by we I mean current mankind as it stands.

But, as with all these bold claims, time will tell. The first people talking about the mayan World's end of 2012 were writing books already in the 1970's. So we will keep having these fun to watch future dates.

At such an incredible velocity it would cover that 150 AU distance in just a matter of a few years. At a distance of 150 AU, an asteroid with an apparent magnitude of 21 would have an absolute magnitude H of -0.77 by my calculations. If the reflectivity (albedo) is 4% we can solve for the diameter.

Diameter = (1329/Sqrt(albedo))*10^(-0.2*H)

In this case that equals a diameter of 9,473 km. That's not an asteroid, nor is it a comet, it's a planet midway between the size of Mars and Earth.

*I now see you mention it was magnitude 19.5 at discovery at the coordinates you mentioned? That makes the claim even more ridiculous. So I was being too generous by assuming it to be as dim as magnitude 21. So now the absolute magnitude H becomes -2.3 and the diameter becomes 19,164 km. It's now 50% wider than earth itself. I can command an iTelescope to image those coordinates down to that magnitude if you want, but I promise it will just be a waste of my money. The author claims this is real? His handwaving about deliberately adding "mistakes" sounds like a cover his ass excuse to keep claiming it's real every time an inconsistency or absurdity of his story is pointed out.

...and a Palomar Sky Survey plate taken 25 years ago of the same coordinates.

I detect a handful of high proper motion stars, but I don't see anything that jumps out to me as a planet in our solar system barreling towards at a velocity far above solar escape velocity. The Palomar plate was recorded in July 1993, and of course the image last night was in November, so there should be quite noticeable parallax for any solar system object, even if it's making a bee-line straight towards an impact with earth in 2027. Even at ~500 AU farther away where it would have been at that velocity 25 years ago, it would still be quite noticeable in the image, as in hundreds of pixels at the 0.81 arcsecond per pixel image scale of this telescope.

Needless to say I'm going to be staring at this image for a good time. I can tell some small smudges like dark blotches that I assume are in the Palomar image from 1993 as I take this was a physical plate image that was scanned at High ress.

The newer image has some features that appear as "bubbles" when zoomed at max, but I take they are just artifacts of the compression and glare of the telescope.

Needless to say I'm going to be staring at this image for a good time. I can tell some small smudges like dark blotches that I assume are in the Palomar image from 1993 as I take this was a physical plate image that was scanned at High ress.

The newer image has some features that appear as "bubbles" when zoomed at max, but I take they are just artifacts of the compression and glare of the telescope.
