The big iconic thing in there that draws the most attention for first-timers is the display of skulls (and it's an actual display of skulls and items set into the wall, not a painting)...

Initiates are expected to choose which role they want, based on the items and what the skulls represent. Do you want to be a king or a beggar kind of thing. They oddly chat up the beggar part as some sort of lucky traveler - but I get the feeling that's just to con someone into taking the role so they don't have to.
