Most people are not going to know much about the area of Paradise, but I used to live there 10 years ago in a location that was almost engulfed exactly like this fire...and the 2008 fire also had the same name! (Those fires were caused by dry lightning strikes.)

The Paradise area is high elevation, and there are really only about two ways out of the town and down through the hills...it's over 1,500 1,700 feet elevation if I recall. When either of those roads are jammed or blocked (which is what happened here), then you are truly and utterly FUCKED!

In that 2008 "Camp Fire", I was almost trapped in my car trying to get the fuck out, exactly like those people in the LiveLeak video that is going around. It was some apocalyptic-looking shit with fire raging on the horizon only 1/4 mile away and raining ash...there was only one way out at that point.

A positively tilted longwave trough will amplify across the West,
with an embedded 60+ knot 500 mb wind maximum overspreading
California during the later half of the period. As a result, strong
high pressure will surge southward across northwest portions of the
Great Basin during the late afternoon/early evening hours, prompting
a tightening pressure gradient across California, where strong
offshore flow amidst dry surface conditions will promote conditions
highly favorable for large fire spread.

...Northern California...
The next in a series of surface high-pressure surges will impact
portions of northern California first during the period. As the
pressure gradient tightens by late evening/early Sunday morning,
strong northerly flow will prevail, with 20+ mph sustained
downslope-driven winds becoming common along the Sierra and Coast
Ranges. With critical surface RH and dry fuels present across the
area, a critical delineation was continued for northern portions of
the Sacramento valley.

...Southern California...
As the aforementioned high-pressure surge reaches southern portions
of California towards the end of the period, downslope offshore flow
amidst critically low RH and dry fuels will prevail, with 15-20 mph
winds expected across much of the Foothills area, hence the elevated
delineation. 20-25 mph winds resultant from channeled flow in
terrain-favored areas around the San Gabriel Mountains appear
likely, as indicated by the latest high-resolution model guidance,
hence a critical delineation was added for this area.

I remember that. There were something like 1200 fires started by lightning in the north state. My daughter had an outdoor wedding the day after the fires started and thankfully the smoke wasn't too bad at that point.

The following week at work, I had to wear a N95 mask because of all the smoke and ash that was raining down.

Chemtrails are the culprit for increased lightning strikes

#Woolseyfire No official update on acreage after the 35K acres from last night. The red line is from the IR flight data taken last night. The green line was what I drew last night, 60K acres. Fire looks to be much bigger.
