Extreme fire conditions today for San Diego! Hey, the GLPer who has posted earlier and said he works at a pet supply store works in Calabasas. Quoting: thinking... Hey I’m here and ok thankfully! I’m the store manager of that store and was just off for my shift when I got the call that Calabasas was evacuated. The winds have been strong all day and I had to help the staff working their shifts either contact relatives, as all cell phone service was very bad since these fires. Before I left I counted at least 80 sheriffs cars racing down 101 and had no idea what was going on at that point. Traffic was a nightmare, but I’m back home thankfully, which is about 17 miles from ground zero. So I’m safe here for the moment. But, I’ve heard the winds will be very intense all night and tomorrow as well. Just catching up on reading and so glad to see you! Really appreciate your accounts on what's happening. 17 miles in not very far when talking wildfires so I hope you're not in the direction this fire is traveling. Stay safe and alert, amigo! True, 17miles isn’t far but I guess it feels like more since work is basically ground zero. My wife and I are on edge that’s for sure, which isn’t good for her since she’s pregnant!! So yeah I am monitoring this as close as I can. And now with the new new San Bernardino fire starting, it seems like we all might be surrounded by fire in all directions. Odd thing is it is very cold tonight, way more than usually is this time of year. This whole situation is very weird. Been here my whole life and no fire has seemed this odd before, especially with how fast it started and spread. Lungs are killing me too. |

Evan Schreiber Quoting: thinking... ‏ @SchreiberEvan 4m4 minutes ago #BREAKING: In news conference, @ButteSheriff @KoryHonea says more bodies found in #CampFire in #Paradise; death toll now 29 people. If that isn't heartbreaking enough: about 121 people still unaccounted for. It’s heartbreaking, isn’t it? We are “tied” with being the most deadly wildfire ever in California; sadly we will most definitely be the most deadly shortly. And the actual number of missing has gone up to 228: [link to www.sfchronicle.com (secure)] I saw a tweet that said that the sheriff said the 228 isn't accurate because many had been located alive. He confirmed the 121 number. That could change, I'm sure. Missing numbers will turn to confirmed dead :( In his poem Human Pride, Marx admits that his aim is not to improve the world, reform or revolutionize it, but simply to ruin it and enjoy it being ruined: With disdain I will throw my gauntlet full in the face of the world, And see the collapse of this pygmy giant whose fall will not stifle my ardor. Then will I wander godlike and victorious through the ruins of the world And, giving my words an active force, I will feel equal to the Creator. “Looking for consciousness in the brain is like looking in the radio for the announcer.” – Nasseim Haramein, Director of Research for the Resonance Project |

Humidity is about 5% there. Is this thing gonna push all the way up the hill? Towards the desert?! I don't know the geography or wind direction but heading east would be Palm Springs and that's not so dense with plant life when you get out that far (real desert). I think the wind is blowing from the north and east so wouldn't push the fire east. Not to say that some arsonist can't start more somewhere else.
