Quoting: Lost Pottawatomie Maybe only reinforced concrete is really safe enough. If I had to guess, my answer would be that laying brick is labor intensive. Builders want homes to go up as fast as possible, with the least amount of expenses, and labor is one of the biggest expenses that can be trimmed. don't really know though. |

Brock Long, administrator of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), said the damage to Paradise was "one of the worst disasters" he had ever seen. I see where the Camp Fire is now burning UP THE FEATHER RIVER: [link to fsapps.nwcg.gov (secure)] The link is an Infrared map of large fires in California. Look at the area just NW of L Tahoe. The red dots indicate recent substantial heat. Yellow older. Much of the yellow here is where the really bad stuff happened in and near Paradise. ======= I jumped three fires in the Feather River drainage back in the day. I suspect that work is now going to be corrected. What has happened is the Santa Anas (North winds actually here) have died and the fire is moving in a different direction. The patients thought they were going to die but a firefighter got them to a safe space where they hunkered down & rode the fire out. Smoke has mostly been in the hazardous range throughout the valley Spent today crying with a good friend when she told be about her son and grandson who got trapped by fire on 4 sides and called and told her goodbye; their lives were saved by some fire fighters who sprayed them and others with water in a field. My friend and her son both lost their houses and absolutely everything. |
