Why is the DOW Still Used as a Measure of Market Movement?

Back in the day, the DOW was used as a broad measurement of market activity. This was before the widespread use of computers and calculating the movement of each stock would be tedious and time consuming.

Today, a market reading of ALL stocks of the major markets could be done on a real time basis and preclude the game playing and market manipulation that takes place with the major exchange indices.


Only conclusion is that DOW is only a tool of mass influence, not market health
