Shit winter so far in Finland.

Nothing but rain and darkness. Last winter was great. One of those traditional snow-up-to-the-thigh kind of winters.

Didn't even set up my heated greenhouses this year. I knew something wasn't right and didn't think a few plants living could justify an extra $150/month on the electric bill.

Last year we went skiing at Big Sky in Montana and they had record snowfall then. Last winter was record breaking for a lot of states but it rarely makes it down to Florida. As a kid growing up in Florida I remember real winters, not constant freezing, but cold spells that would last a month. Now it’s just hot all of the time.

I think so too. We just moved back to Texas in July, and I just finished fall planting of some trees, gardenias and roses -- maybe I should have held off on that companion planting of jasmine with one of the Peggy Martin climbers? Keeping the cover on it for the next few nights to be safe. Glad we held off on the sago palms till Spring.

I really dread this. Last year temperatures at my home fell to single digits F. That was at least ten degrees colder than the previous twenty five years my home has existed.

One of the HVAC outside units caught fire, both water tanks froze solid and the bladders in them ruptured, and numerous pipes froze and broke in the walls of my home.

I haven't replaced the water tanks, I now repressurize them with air every four or five months to make up for what dissolves into solution in the water; it's rather a pain in the arse to need to do it so often now.

Our greenhouse was beaten up by a hail storm, did not have time to get it fixed in time for this winter. Will be a priority next season.

Actually I’ve been reading about this mini ice age for several years. I bought a book by this former NASA scientist who started the claim a while back. Anyway, he lives in Florida and says Florida is the place to be when the ice age is upon us. I guess we don’t have long to wait to find out.

Looking at a 20,000 LPG indoor heater for less than $120 for backup. I'd hate to spend too long in the car if my generator gas runs out.....monoxide poisoning and all.

I checked Wooly Bear Catepillars - nothing different here - average winter predicted

I have photographed the Wooly Bears for about 10 years now - not predicting super cold or super snow

Last year we missed all the BIG storms

That jet stream moved south and east - left us with milder winters overall

The snowmobile club was bummed out

Looks like some "average" winter - GOOD SLEDDING AHEAD!
