My point is that it might just be something natural, but very rare.

What if plasma from space pierced through the atmosphere.

There is probably some data that could be dug up if a certain date time range were known.

Basically we could tell you if there was something that disturbed the atmosphere in that area. You would see it in the weather as well.

These were not natural fires. Whether it was lasers or microwaves makes little difference. I tend to go with microwaves due to the effects seen in the burned homes and cars.
