Screw Marathoners: An Hour In Traffic With The Elderly Family Member of a Vietnam Veteran
I volunteer sometimes to pick up the family of veterans who are in the hospital. This guy was in for major surgery. His daughter flew in to be with him. I volunteered to pick her up because my wife was one of the RNs taking care of him.

I was stuck in traffic half a mile from the hospital so the vapid, suburbanite spandex trash could finish their shitty little race.

You're narcissism is repugnant. And before any marathon cultist chime in, I ran a few triathlons when I was younger and have been a lifelong boxer, wrestler, and crew rower. And I still workout daily. I'm not against exercise, I am against this banal need to be seen exercising.

By the way, the man ended up intubated before we got to the damn hospital. And while he likely be extubated and able to see his family, he's not out of the woods and there's a chance he never gets to speak with his family again because you jogging fucktards think you're awesome.

Around here they have road closures all the time for this event or that event. They ALWAYS announce, via the media but also on the city websites, what roads will be closed and for how long so people can plan out alternative routes.

Was the closing of the city streets UNANNOUNCED and SUDDEN? (how could they have a "marathon" that was unannounced??)

or

Did YOU just not pay attention and notice that there was an upcoming street closure.

Do you get as upset with Veterans when they close some streets for the Veterans Day Parade?

What about the Memorial Day Parade? or the Christmas Parade? What about the one for the 4th of July parade and fireworks?

ANY road closures are going to inconvenience people. Here because it is a city it happens almost weekly for one thing or another (parades, large sports events, large concerts, community events that are done in the streets, and yes marathons) so us locals just pay attention so we don't get trapped because WE, the driver, was just not paying attention to the news before we started our driving.

races should not be on city streets or major through ways..

it is leftist city hall wanting to screw car drivers and shut them down, they want everyone to have socialized transit, or bikes or uber or whatever else shit they will dream up in the coming decades...

they are control freaks.

anyone with a brain knows that pounding concrete and pavement for 25 miles is bad on your shins, knees, feet, and hips.

these races should be in the country side where these self absorbed leftist twits can indulge their own greatness while running from bears and other pissed off animals.

That's so sad that his daughter didn't visit him before his condition became so serious and that they might not get to speak to each other again. I always thought it was so important to call or visit elderly parents on a regular basis before it's too late.

Why should we, the driver, submit to a bunch of low brow libtards tying up traffic for hours for their attention whoring?

She came in from Texas. He had a son present when he was tubed. I'm waiting, as is his family, for him to be extubated.

By the way lib, those events don't wipe out 30 square blocks like some spandex Hiroshima.

It's also a bitch on your heart. I ran a half-Ironman at 38. At 44, A-Fib and the distance running, cycling, and heavy crew load is a direct contributing factor. That and OSA. Granted, I am in a normal rhythm now, but I look back on the decades of running, swimming, biking, and sculling and now wish I'd gone fishing with my son more. verysad

I pray he makes a full recovery. It's so tough to see a loved one ill. I was devastated when my parents died.

My 40 year old daughter needed open heart surgery two years ago. Her unexpected diagnosis shocked us. She had no symptoms! Healthy all her life! I was a basket case from the time of her diagnosis until she fully recovered from surgery. I cried everyday before her surgery with worry. And I'm an RN! It doesn't make it any easier.

Marathoners don't run marathons to show off, we run to prove we can do it. Also the events are planned a whole year in advance, and I bet the local radio was announcing the road closures but you were too stupid to listen to find out.

You are definitely a trotting ass hat. Running around in spandex saying, "watch me run, everybody. See my fanny! See my ass eating my spandex while I shimmy my wee little legs along so I get tired. I'm doing good everybody, see me see me run! The fanny, oh the fanny nibbles my tights."

Foremost, asshat, I'm not fat. In fact, I have 16% body fat, which for a 46 year old ain't bad. Second, I am frequent exerciser and have no beef with exercise.

Third, running a marathon means you jog well. Virtually any healthy adult between 16-50 can run a fuckin' marathon. If you can stand at your job for eight to twelve hours, surprise, you have the endurance to train for a marathon.

Let me reiterate, you jog well. I'm mean, jeez, you could be a fuckin' Avenger with those stats!

No, really, most people who train for a marathon rarely cross 70% of their VO2Max during training. Essentially, jogging a tad above a walk. So, if you want a real test of your badassness, might I suggest a planche push up or a strict muscle up and sub 6:30 2K row. Which are a little more challenging than jogging for 26 miles and actually have positive health benefits.

Oh, and by the way, they don't tie up traffic for six hours, dick.

To all the "I jog far, I'm healthy" asshats, can't fight science. You're screwing yourselves.
