Serving alcohol to kids
My sister asked me if I have a problem with serving alcohol to kids, or the concept of kids drinking alcohol.

I told her this.
Not inside my own house and if I'm giving my own kids a glass of red or white wine.

But the bottom line is, that other people's kids are just that, other people's kids and I am not that other kid's mom or dad and if they have a different attitude about it, I am the one legally in the wrong and not them.

I'm not in the business of spending time in jail, or prison over a glass of wine.

Parents should treat their teenagers to a glass of red wine once in awhile. It's only civilized.

Re: Serving alcohol to kids
It’s perfectly legal in most states for a parent or legal guardian to give their child an alcoholic beverage. Even in a restaurant.

But if you give alcohol to someone else’s kid you go to jail.

Those are the rules.

You mean, kids kids?
I met this girl today at work who is 19. She drinks. I have a problem with that. It's a REAL bad habit to start up. She could be so much skinnier if she didn't drink. Poor thing.

Re: Serving alcohol to kids
My 17 year old son texted me from a graduation party this past May if he could have his first beer. I silently smiled and told him one ... and he is not go get in a car with anyone who had a drink. I knew the family.

He was so happy to have a beer with his friends. Like he was cool.

Over the past summer - he asked me to buy some beer to watch a movie. He changed it to wine coolers. I bought a 6 pack and split it with him.

He wanted to have more than 3 because he didn't feel it. I said no ... He went to his room and played Xbox.

Next day he said he was glad he didn't have more ... It hit him after.

He was happy to feel being drunk. I was happy he did it with me safely in my home.

He won't be a drinker. He has too much going for him after a perfect high school performance.

The day I turned 21, beer tasted good. Before that, even though the legal age to drink was 18, beer tasted awful. Whiskey or bourbon? Those always taste like puke to me, because that was the lingering taste that was in my mouth the first time I had them and got drunk.

In small doses.
Smashed children sound annoying as all hell, also worrying.

Wow first beer at seventeen ? Good kid ya got there ;) Reminds me of my nephew

My father gave me my first beer when I was six. I didn't want anything in the fridge, he was going through the list of what we had. He says, well ya wanna beer ? I was like SURE ! Feeling like a grown up :P

I thought it tasted like shit and only drank a little bit. I wanted to take it outside to the playground and show off to my friends. But, of course he wouldn't allow that :)

Hum, champagne. My parents anniversary was Jan 1. They let us have a small glass of champagne to celebrate with them.

When I was 16 my high school took a trip to Europe. The Art teacher was the chaperone. We went to the Moulin Rouge where, not only did we see the "show", we had 3 glasses of champagne.

Re: Serving alcohol to kids
My grandfather had a keg in a fridge on the porch when I was growing up with a draft nozzle. He had a big mug, got me a tiny mug when I was 5 or 6 and he would fill it mostly with foam for me so I thought I was drinking a beer with him after work. All was well till my mom found out , lol, that was 45 years ago.
