It should be relatively simple to put to this issue to bed...
Why can't someone replicate the 1960's Tin-Can technology that landed on the moon, and do it again?
Surely a company like Space-X should be able to easily replicate 50 year old tech, and have multiple 3rd party verification's in-place to quell any doubt.
Quoting: McShillin the 60s were heady days for NASA, the space race with the USSR had their budget at incredible % of GDP, something we're unlikely to see again...ever. The current NASA is slowly working up Constellation for returns to the Moon and beyond, but it's nowhere near the funding or pace of the 1960s...America had space fever back then, don't have it much now...truly, you really had to be there and live through it to get it. They did send an Orion spacecraft up for testing, and work continues.
