With two kids 3 and 6. It was peaceful. Now I live in the Ozark Mountains, Peaceful. People dont relize money is an illusion and people keep this illusion going. STOP THIS ILLUSION it is our only hope. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 244736Flint of the Sky Clan Money is an illusion. I go to the store and buy stuff with illusion, lol. What do you expect, all of us to head for the hills and raise/hunt our own food and fend for ourselves to avoid using money? What a disaster that would be, socially, and environmentally. Good life for the few, but if the masses subscribed to it look out. Some poeple are so fucking stupid. |

Good life for the few, but if the masses subscribed to it look out. Some poeple are so fucking stupid. well, i think that is precisely why they intend on eliminating billions of us, because they know we can not go on much longer the way we have, that if people don't return to living off the land, we will implode, and i should say masses, because the haves will continue to live a decadent lifestyle, as always people can get by pretty well without money, if you have something to barter for, and you would have to live a simple life, and actually have time to relax, but you won't have a five bedroom home, three cars, a boat, eat out every night , nor have 2.3 spoiled rotten children "By way of deception, thou shalt do war." :O) User ID: 78102 United States 05/31/2007 11:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Build your own underground home. Here is what Home & Garden Network (HGTV) had to say about Mike Oehler's underground house, on a special called "The Subterraneans", which has aired frequently. (Check your schedule for future airings): "This guy literally wrote the book on subterranean housing and sold more than 75,000 copies of The $50 & Up Underground House Book. He lives in his own creation. It's a little snug but it's custom built and has all the creature comforts. You can barely see it, a dream get away nestled deep in the mountains of scenic Northern Idaho on 40 acres of land. Imagine it, all yours for $500. That's what subterranean pioneer Mike Oehler created when he... built one of the nations first underground houses in 1971... Today his little house in a hillside is a rustic gem... It's like having an underground log cabin... and somehow eight feet underground there's still lots of light here. Mike has developed what he calls an Up Hill Patio, a cut behind the house and into the hill, where plants can grow and light and air flow through the house. MIKE: "I think I've got the only system in the country, maybe the world where you get light, air and views from two or three directions in each and every room in the underground house.' "A beautiful mountain side, custom design, self-sufficiency and plenty of natural light even though you're underground, and all for $500. And maybe best of all, tranquility. MIKE: 'Its easy to heat, easy to cool, It's easy on your ears because it's much more soundproof in there.' So what's next for Mike Oehler? Well, he's writing a new book and he's designing and building a new (1800 sq. ft. underground) home. It's got a patio, and a tree house, and an underground pool and jacuzzi. And how much for this super house? $15,000. |

I shared a common bathroom with the room adjacent. Easy to clean, and impossible to aquire too much stuff 'cause there simply wasn't enough room for it! Now I own a small house and am constantly fighting the junk monster. Doesn't help that my hobby and job is muscle car restoration...big toys. Shoulda got into coin collecting... |

Quoting: moonscapeAssociated Press BUFFALO, N.Y. — A city fire investigator says he found a man living in a well-equipped underground bunker. James O'Neill, an investigator with the city fire marshal's office, said the man, a 47-year-old veteran, uses car batteries to light the 16-by-20-foot space, which is six feet underground. He cooks food in a hot pot. The man said the bunker took two years to dig, O'Neill said. The walls are covered with insulation and plastic tarps and the ceiling is made of wood and roofing material, said O'Neill, who discovered the home over the weekend while investigating a nearby fire. The man sleeps on a foam bed, O'Neill said. "Some people would call him homeless, but he's a clean, well-spoken guy. When I spoke to him, he was reading a novel by Joseph Wambaugh," O'Neill told The Buffalo News. The fire investigator declined to give the man's name or say where the bunker is located to protect the man's privacy. He said the man earns money doing occasional odd jobs. "It's not the Marriott hotel by any means, but this man has made it comfortable down there," O'Neill said. The man said he has been living in the bunker for about six years. "He told me it's a peaceful and tranquil place to live," O'Neill said. [link to www.chron.com] Hopefully the radon levels are low. |

mercury2 User ID: 245076 France 06/01/2007 01:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My apartment is 20 x 20, I've been here so long, five years, that it is starting to seem quite spacious. I like living up off the ground though, a couple of stories up, because I get creeped out by bugs in the house, I don't think you could avoid a bug problem in an underground house? All houses in Minnesota where I'm originally from have basements, and they are all full of spiders and sowbugs and centipedes, etc. However this guy deserves a lot of credit for his ingenuity and bravery to live like that. I hope no one disturbs him. |
