Anybody sick of the Warbling in Todays Music
Singers keep changing the pitch of their voices up and down; sounds like a slave being whipped. It is Lazy singing as it takes a lot of energy to maintain constant pitch.

Yes. Modern singers have sounded like everything is just too, too painful to bear. I hate to hear them. Earplugs while shopping.

I always said that kind of singing sounds like someone impaled on a fence.

I blame Whitney Houston.

Lol, For some reason production crews seem to think hiding voices w/auto tune is a surefire way to get a hit.
Never mind actual talent, that left waaay back, right around the MTV debute.

The one that REALLY warbled was Leeann Rymes singing the song, Blue.

I mean, that was some serious warbling, am I right?

Yep, Whitney Houston started it and now every body and their mom copies it, it’s one of the most irritating vocal styles ever. I’ll give Whitney credit though, at least she sounded good when she did it.

That is like a vibrato put through autotune. That is fucking terrible. Why does everyone want to sound like robots now? I mean, I'm an industrial-rock artist and even I don't want to sound like a fucking robot.

I'm not sure either.

Mariah Carey could pierce an eardrum with a few of her early songs.
Sounded kind of like a song bird being electrocuted.

Actually, it was Cher. Whitney could actually sing. Look up auto tune, every article about it mentions Cher as the first mainstream usage.

I know what you're talking about OP, it's not really "warbling", a lot of singers do that and it sounds good most of the time.

Changing pitch all over the place, however, has become common and sounds like crap.

See between the first 10 and 20 seconds of this video...

Auto-tune is not required to produce this effect, it’s just the obnoxious overuse of vibrato to sound “soulful” Whitney had the talent to make it sound good, everything now is just a cheap imitation, sounds like shit. It’s even worse when they add auto tune to that fucking mess.
