Then started intermittent fasting since September. Lost 15 lbs with flat stomach. I chose 18/6 hour window. I eat whatever I want during 6 hours. I think I’ve gained it all back actually even though I stick to fasting. It’s irritating. I don’t exercise though. I’m thinking of going low carb after the 1st of the year in conjunction with IF. Given a certain mass of naphthalene calculate 1) the energy change when it's completely combusted, 2) the enthalpy of the reaction of 1 mole of combusted naphthalene, 3) the enthalpy of formation of naphthalene, and 4) the energy change of 1 mole of the same reaction. I keep coming up with the wrong answer (according to the back of the book answer section). Various internet searches on the problem give different answers from my book's answer, and, interestingly from published tables of enthalpies. In one case the formation enthalpy found was twice the book's result, and twice some tables result. Some published tables give ranges for these values, some, mostly textbook appendices, give single numbers. Enthalpy values derived from tables of bond energy for various compounds are especially variable. Bond breaking energies for similar compounds vary, so the reported energies reported are averages. I'd like to know what causes these variations. am I simply misunderstanding the process or is there a real underlying cause that's not mentioned in the literature that accounts for these discrepancies. That these variations exist could account for why different people metabolize foods differently. Perhaps some people simply need less energy to break chemical bonds than others and hence need less food. On the other hand, maybe some need more energy to break bonds and thus need more food. If so, then specific guidelines about the proper amount of food one should eat could be misleading, causing some people to starve themselves by restricting themselves to the "right" amount of food, and others feeling guilty because they "overeat" or "stuff themselves like pigs". They may even seek unnecessary medical intervention to correct this "problem" when all they really need to do is eat what's comfortable for them. Could intermittent fasting alter this process in some way? |

Although im definitely not built, im still skinny. I eat absolutely whatever i please including cakes and chocolate, butter, cheese, meats, pasta. I do absolutely no exercise, i sit at the computer all day hardly moving. I dont have a big appetite and often miss breakfast. maybe that has something to do with it. It's pretty easy, though I'm going to severely limit the carbs as well. I eat two meals a day, lunch and dinner, but dinner has to be finished by 7pm, that's when the pens are down. I'm now missing the "evening snack", which was probably responsible for an extra 10 lbs. at least. I need to lose about 40 lbs. and this looks to be the best way to go. The added bonus is I now freed up about 20-30 mins in the AM when I used to prepare food. When you are afraid of losing your life, you have already lost your life. Don't be afraid. |
