Re: I lost my belly fat by intermittent fasting
I just started the OMAD (eat One Meal A Day) diet 3 weeks ago. I'm losing inches more than weight, for now. I eat whatever I want for dinner, but still stay away from sodas. Coffee and water during the day only. It's easier now than when I first started.
 Quoting: *~Chloe~*

I swear the biggest fallacies were "breakfast is the most IMPORTANT meal of the day!"

And, "If you starve your body your metabolism will slow to a crawl."

Both turned out to be totally not true, and I feel better than ever. And the weight loss came EASY.

I was shocked, honestly.

How do you prevent getting a headache or the irritability/nausea feeling from low blood sugar? If I don’t eat, I definitely get a headache and sometimes feel nauseous.
 Quoting: Little Red Hen

I was worried about that, I had headaches the first couple days. I would pop an aspirin and drink a cup of coffee.

After about a week, I no longer experienced that.

Re: I lost my belly fat by intermittent fasting
Couldn't lose it no matter how much run or train. Then started intermittent fasting since September. Lost 15 lbs with flat stomach. I chose 18/6 hour window. I eat whatever I want during 6 hours. I drink black coffee in the morning and drink water in the evening. Sleeping well.
 Quoting: Beautiful mind

Did you mean 8 hour window? Whether it is 6 or 8, what is your designated time to splurge?

Re: I lost my belly fat by intermittent fasting
I've started my New Year's resolution early. Ate way too much this Thanksgiving and don't want to get slammed with even more pounds this Christmas.

Here are my questions: I did keto over a year ago to lose a stubborn 10 - 15 lbs and have nearly gained it all back - which is so frustrating that I don't know I want to do keto again. After I lose the weight, how do I keep it off? I'm in my 40s, will I need to change my diet permanently?

Also, I haven't reached menopause yet but have friends that have and they say it's nearly impossible to lose the weight after menopause - especially belly fat because of hormones. Does intermittent fasting help or hinder a woman's hormonal balance? In other words, if I go off the diet, will the weight (and then some) come back?

What about exercise? While on keto I had a hard time losing those final lbs, my friend (who was also on keto) said it was because I exercise too much and the body holds onto the weight with too much exercise - I've googled and found conflicting information on this. With intermittent fasting, can I still engage in moderate exercise? (I walk about 3 - 5 miles a day).
 Quoting: ElleMira

I don't consider this a diet, it's a new way of life. (If I go out on the weekend, I make sure THAT'S the meal, so I incorporate that) I am past menopause, 57, and this is the ONLY way I was able to take off the stubborn middle age weight gain. I exercised a little bit, but it was pretty minimal and definitely NOT responsible for my weight loss. A couple times a week I might walk for 15-20 minutes, that's it. It was all about the fasting.

As I said, the first week was tough, after that, the EASIEST thing I ever did.

No other diet came close. No other diet gave me any kind of success.

Re: I lost my belly fat by intermittent fasting
The underlying problem is that the plants in our environment are poisonous to us (since we are alien to the environment) and this sets up a state of inflammation.
Cows, which we for many generations depended on as a sort of living filter to get the toxins our of our environment, even started producing proteins which gave us crohns. Now we have to switch back to a more primitive cow. Nothing likes us here. Not eating so much can help, but ideally we need another food source.

Same here. 84 pounds in 6 months, with several vacation weeks of eating everything and not fasting. Doing the fasting and one meal a day I lose 1-2 pounds every day. I also have the cheat weekends.

Re: I lost my belly fat by intermittent fasting
at any given moment, our bodies are doing ONE of two things:
digesting or detoxifying.

when you eat, your body STOPS detoxifying and begins digesting.
once digestion is over, the body fully resumes the detoxifying.

so i prefer to stay in the latter mode.
food bogs me down.
i feel better when my stomach is empty.
 Quoting: rob2

That's true. After the meal my motivation for workout diminishes. So I do my most workouts before dinner.

Yep, and you can give yourself brain damage via ketosis. The brain needs constant supply of glycogen or it will malfunction. Ketone bodies aren't enough to keep it functioning properly. The headaches you experience are the result of brain damage kicking in. Snd the nausea is keto flu - caused by depressed immune system.
 Quoting: Dildo Baggins

Idiot with the glycogen nonsense. Total bs dude. My brains never worked better wtf is this low glycogen crap? lol

Re: I lost my belly fat by intermittent fasting
I don't live this way BUT it does sound logical to me, and I think I'm going to incorporate some of these ideas (at least for me and my hubs)

Perhaps as you age you need more time "detoxing" and less time "inputting"

Eating is important, and keeping your metabolism high is important too, so I think it is good to eat freely and not worry about calories during eating times.

I'm listening OP!

Fasting is a temporary solution to an inescapable problem that needs to be solved on the macro level. Plants are toxic need to be made less toxic.
In the meantime, not asking your immune system to deal with the poison you are eating as food frees up more of your little immune fish to go swim away from the intestine and work on the periphery and deal with the toxins you are wading through.

How long did it take your relative to lose 70 pounds on IF? How sid IF reverse your diabetes? Do you think the IF reversed it or the low carb or both?

This totally works. I used to be T2 diabetic @ 240lbs, then I went CARNOMAD (one meal a day, eating only meat). Stopped being T2 diabetic within 3 months @ 180 lbs, and still losing.

It takes a few weeks to adapt, but man it feels great !
What, me worry ?

This is a liver issue and dandelion/ milk thistle helps. Too much fat and protein are hard on the liver and kidneys.
Fasting does rest the digestive system.

I have been doing 8/16 since July. I initially lost 10 lbs but haven’t lost any since. I think I’ve gained it all back actually even though I stick to fasting. It’s irritating. I don’t exercise though. I’m thinking of going low carb after the 1st of the year in conjunction with IF.

Re: I lost my belly fat by intermittent fasting
i normally only have sugar in my morning coffee, i dont eat sweets at all.
when i drink alcohol, its more of a binge type, i only have one night every few weeks so i drink alot.
the next morning i will be HUNGRY which is unusual for me as i dont normally get hungry until late afternoon when i eat my usual one meal a day.

something about alcohol makes me hungry the next day and i think it might have to do with the YEAST in our bellies maybe it causes an imbalance of too much yeast which causes the hunger?
im not sure, what do yall think?

Maybe you should combine with exercise. I use 18/6 and run 3 miles daily. Some lift training and pull ups, push ups. I also sprint 3 times a week. I stopped eating candies and chocolate.

is there anyone here who sets aside one day a week to not eat any food?

i try to do one night a week with no dinner, my only meal.
it does shed the weight fast but it could be just water weight.
they say the first five pounds you lose is only water.

That’s almost exactly what I do, OP. I eat twice between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM, then fast for about 16 hours. Your body gets used to it. I stay in good shape.
