Macron won't back down, unless the protest on Dec. 8th is going to be peaceful, but massive.

And by massive, I don't mean tens of thousands, but hundreds of thousands.

Or...tens of thousands, but hell bent on revolution, not protesting.

As I said, if tens of thousands are hell bent on revolution, nothing can stop them.

Peacefully, yes, hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, are needed.

You think that Romanian revolution was made by hundreds of thousands, or millions? or any revolution, for that matter?

Less than 50,000 in Bucharest were actually fighting. Sure, millions supported them...from home.

Revolutions are not made by millions, but by thousands.

But when its millions on the streets of a city then police has to prioritize and manage positions. I imagine for events like these reinforcements come from all regions, special forces for sure. Ten thousand is manageable trust me, well depends on the size of the nation. I know ten thousand would be enough for Slovenia we only got about eight thousand regular police personnel.

Chaos has to be spread out throughout the city to pressure them.

What happened in Romania wasn't a revolution. There were street protests that acted as a trigger and a front. The regime ordered them repressed but the army disobeyed the regime and staged a coup d'etat instead.

For this split between the army and the regime to take place a lot of conditions had to be met. External. Internal.

I don't see such conditions in France. No matter how disliked Macron is, he is seen as being democratically legitimate by the system. At most, he'll hold early elections but that means the regime stays in place only the face of the leader changes.

Between Dec 15th and Dec 22nd, 1989, the Army wasn't involved.

The revolution ended when the Army indeed joined the protesters...but until that happened, over 1,000 people were dead.

I don't know who you are, and how old are you. Romania had a revolution in 1989, no matter WHO actually ignited it.

I was 17 years old in Dec. 1989, stupid enough to be in the streets and lucky enough not to die. Please don't tell me what the army did or didn't, and don't tell me that it wasn't a revolution.

I just got back from a 4 days trip to Buenos Aires. I had to commute through central Paris getting from the airport to my train station.

It was during rush hour. Everything looked pretty normal. Zombies looking at their stupid phone screens trying to get home after a day of doing whatever. I wouldn't call it work. The majority of them are too zombie-fied and brainwhashed to occupy whatever job.

I did not see any sign of agitation whatsoever.

The RER line B from the airport to central Paris goes through all the slums such as Aulnay sous Bois or La Courneuve Aubervilliers. It was business as normal with the train having more Afro-Maghrebs on board than ethnic French.

I wonder how foreign visitors feel when they see this, having to go through all these areas before they reach the city center.

Nobody seems to bother. They are all asleep and going about their daily business with their eyes riveted on their stupid phone screens. They don't even see what goes on around them.

The fact that you were on the street back then doesn't make you an authority on what happened.
Quite the contrary, you were down at "ant level" and had no idea of the wider picture and machinations.

This wider picture has been made available for us by historians in the meantime.

The historical facts show that Army General Atanasie Stanculescu ORDERED the army to stand down and return to the barracks in the morning of December 22.

Since the army was ordered back in the barracks, the television and radio stations were seized by the "revolutionaries" who then proceeded to announce the fall of the regime and the formation of a new leadership of the country.

Ceausescu, who was the Commander in Chief of the Army, was then DETAINED in an army base in Targoviste. Not captured by revolutionaries, detained in an ARMY BASE. Belonging to the same army who ignored his orders and pledged allegiance to Stanculescu, who was only an Army General, not the Commander in Chief.

Typical coup d'état by the army.

Maybe truth hurts, but that's your problem not mine.

LATER EDIT - And btw, only 270 people died before the army staged its coup. The rest (800+) died after that.
