Here in the midwest, it can be 80 degrees today and snow tomorrow..so, any time you have those factors of hot and cold meeting like that, it can create tornadoes....so it can happen in any month..it's just that we usually do not get such warm temps in December..but, it does happen.. happened in December 2010...we were able to walk in the woods with shorts and no coats, like it was summer.. Last night, the sky looked like it did in the wizard of oz...the color was like looking at black and white while you were staring at it..with a little yellow swirled in...it was pretty wicked and cool..I was walking my dog and the clouds we so low and it almost looked like they were breathing.. They would push down a bit and then be sucked back up..over and over and it appeared they were breathing..inhaling in and out..pretty awesome. Luckily, we did not get a tornado where I live..but I thought it was going to happen.. We were never really in any danger at any point. We both have a lot of training and experience with severe weather. Last I heard there were 21 people injured in Taylorsville, but no fatalities.
