Liberia's pretty rough. There was a bad civil war there in the 90s.

Things were bad prior to that, too. Apparently boys as young as 12 or 13 were in the habit of raping little girls in the streets there, with little or no intervention from adults.

I almost went there. I was near the border in Ivory Coast and I met this guy. He told me a story. He was with a girl in her room above a restaurant. In the middle of the night they heard gunshots so they got under the bed. In the morning they went downstairs and the restaurant was full of dead bodies.
