How about rereading Gen Chap 1 and Gen Chap 2. You'll notice there is two creations going on here. Also note the being was Eloheem (plural) in Chap 1. In Gen chapter 1, the man and woman seem to have have been created at the same time. They were to be vegetarians and tasked to be gathers.

Gen Chap 2 is where Adam was formed. This is after the Chapter 1 creation story. Eve was later created from Adam. Note Yehovah is present this time. Notice Adam was given the breath of life where as those in Gen chap 1 were not given the breath of life. Eve wasn't given the breath of life. It is not found or insinuated that she did get it. Interesting to note he was tasked to till the ground. Also, they were to be vegetarians. Most importantly, it was those in Chap 2 who received the law whereas those in chap 1 did not.
