Is our world generated procedurally?

As a scientist I sometimes wonder about that.

The deeper we delve into the nature, the more we find and less we seem to know. Furthermore, our discoveries seem to align with fiction and human fantasies, as if the unknown is being populated in real-time with ideas from our collective consciousness.

The latter could, of course, be explained by us having a subconscious understanding of how the nature works.
