I am watching Kubrick's, "The Shining", and I am thoroughly creeped out. | |

I was only 8 but I remember the hotel was beautiful, not creepy like the movie. Quoting: Jeepster Yeah .. The Overlook in the movie was patterned or inspired by The Stanley in real-life. Some of the Overlook's interior motif was also drawn from The Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite Nat Park. But there is no maze behind Timberline Lodge in Oregon (as some might imagine), and the interior film set for the movie was created at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire in the UK. I was skiing at Timberline one Summer day and bought my lift-ticket at the front desk, and the desk-clerk working there apologized to another customer for there being no Shining-maze out behind the hotel. I made the mistake of reading the book before I saw the movie, which left me disappointed by the movie. I've liked Jack Nicholson in a lot of films, but didn't like his performance in "The Shining". I thought he hammed it up way too much. He even made some scenes funny that were meant to be scary. His portrayal didn't match the more sinister way the character was portrayed in the book. |

It had so much food, and there were so many places to walk around. The ghosts were no weirder than things I normally ran into while walking (well, maybe not quite so much blood). Jack was the only annoyance and he wouldn't have survived breaking his kid's arm very long with me around anyway, being up there alone....wait, supposed what is going on in The Shining is actually Wendy Torrance using her latent mind control powers to drive Jack insane and thereby justify her killing him? And everything in the hotel is a manifestation of Wendy's single minded drive for vengeance. |

Creepy. It’s no secret most of the movie has references to the Apollo landing. Kubrick’s wife published a book after his death indicating that he filmed Apollo movies and felt guilty. He used the Shining as a way to disclose. Stephen King didn’t like Kubrick’s version of his book. If you google you’ll find there’s lots written about. Still the Shining doesn’t compare to the original “It” movie. Dam that one makes me sleep with all the lights on fo weeks! |

Sounds like you have a great story idea and should get writing. |

The story was written at the Stanley, and it was supposed to take place there. If I recall, the movie was filmed at Timberline Lodge (Mt. Hood) but I might be wrong about that. |

Fast forward to a couple of months ago, watched it again and it flipped my shit. Complete mind f***! Scary. For so many reasons. It's as if Jack Nicholson is possessed by something other worldly and something very negative. It comes through clearly in his acting in this movie. He is amazingly convincing. The story reaches out and grabs you and messes with you. It makes me wonder what went through Kubrick's and King's heads to make this story. What dark places (mentally) did they go to, to make this story come alive? Shelly Duvall, or whatever her name is, does seem to flounder a bit in this movie or maybe it was just me. The kid did a good job from what I remember. WYSIWYG COVID Va¢¢1nes do hurt people. I’m walking, talking proof of that. Killed a close family member. |
