(pg. 71)-UK Government on verge of collapse Question for UK glpers. I dont see where EU has a choice. If Britain wants to leave the EU, what is the council to do? Go to war? How is it that Theresa May doesnt just say, "ok we are out of here and this is the concessions you will get"? Obviously I know there is external pressure. But between trade with non EU allies, especially the US, it seems Britain could stand independently anyway. Is that too unnerving to consider for the government? Quoting: Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Lol no, the number 1 economic partner of UK is Europe UK has no bargaining power and it was stupid to even think they ever did. They can quit unilaterally all they want but they can't beg to remain in the EU market at the same time Well yes I agree, as far as I know the details of this. There was talk of strengthening the US - UK trade relationship, and I don't think Trump was opposed to it because he prefers bilateral agreements. Maybe May just hates Trump and the Trump movement and doesn't want UK to be associated with it. But I think most of the people who voted for Brexit expected something like this: really exit, trade with EU on WTO terms. I don't remember the government saying "don't worry, if you vote for Brexit, we won't really do it anyway and we'll spend 2 years giving away $billions to avoid a real exit." . DON'T VAX, PROPHYLAX! ____________ There is no anger in Me: If one offers Me thorns and thistles, I will march to battle against him, And set all of them on fire. But if he holds fast to My refuge, He makes Me his friend; He makes Me his friend. (Isaiah 27:4-5) |

But between trade with non EU allies, especially the US, it seems Britain could stand independently anyway. Is that too unnerving to consider for the government? Quoting: Whiskey Tango Foxtrot The UK could just leave, but that would mean there would be no tariff free trade deal between the UK and EU for the time being. That's why we've seen months/years of negotiations, which has now seen the UK capitulate on many other areas beside trade... but in return the EU hasn't even agreed to a trade deal yet only the "promise of one in the future". UK conducts more than 90% of its global trade on WTO terms, so it perhaps wouldn't be as disastrous as many have threatened if the UK left the EU with no trade deal. EU exports a lot to the UK so it's in their interests to see a tariff free trade deal, the only difference is treasonous Theresa May blinked first and caved to virtually all the EU demands. This..... The “Deal” is basically a “ you can leave, but not really” deal, that the next liberal gov can easily throw out. It was designed that way. From my side of the pond, I think the only future for the UK is a hard Brexit, and an immediate gov change. Otherwise you are still just slaves to German and French Bankers. |

(pg. 71)-UK Government on verge of collapse Brexit: Theresa May is to call-off Tuesday's crucial vote on her Brexit deal in the face of what was expected to be a significant defeat by Tory rebels. Quoting: NewGeneration2019 Government sources have said the prime minister is set to tell MPs about the delay in a statement at 15:30 GMT. Downing Street had been insisting the vote would go ahead.(for several weeks) The pound fell sharply in response, shedding 0.5% versus the US dollar to stand at $1.26. Against the euro, the pound was 0.8% down at 1.10 euros. Mrs May's Commons statement will be followed by a statement from Commons leader Andrea Leadsom - and then a statement from the Brexit secretary Stephen Barclay on Article 50 - the legal mechanism taking the UK out of the EU on 29 March. The deal has been agreed with the EU - but it needs to be backed by the UK Parliament if it is to become law ahead of the UK's departure. Mrs May is thought to be trying to convince MPs to back her deal by suggesting the Northern Ireland backstop - the main item they object to - could be modified. But European Commission spokeswoman Mina Andreeva said the EU would not renegotiate the Withdrawal Agreement. [link to www.bbc.co.uk (secure)] No offense meant, but why is this urgent?
