@theresa_may told 1922 committee she would love to fight next general election but recognized that would not be popular with many colleagues. That was seen by some MPs as statement she will go after Brexit but sounds to me like constructive ambiguity. They heard what they wanted to hear and she promised nothing.

There are more Conservative MPs against May standing at the next Election than there are against her remaining in place during the short term. Now she has not promised to stand down after Brexit, so there could be a decent chance now that she loses this vote of confidence tonight I reckon.

The BBC has CONFIRMED that May told the MPs at the 1922 Committee that she will NOT lead her party into the next election. Just heard it live from someone relaying her speech to BBC reporters.

There's going to be a lot of uncertainty either way with the Brexit tbh. Though I think the markets prefer there being more certainty about who exactly will be the PM in the near future.

This is getting slightly ridiculous. Another Tory MP says @theresa_may committed only to going before 2022 if election then - but would not rule out leading party into a possible “snap” election in coming year! “We’ve got her for another three years!” was the heartfelt cry

May wins the confidence vote of her party, what next?

We face the prospect of a confidence vote in Parliament some time soon by all the parties. If she wins that vote then she could feasibly find enough support in Parliament to revoke or extend article 50 all the way up til the 2022 general election and beyond(UK stays tethered to the EU).

I wish I was joking.

But if she loses the vote then there will very likely be a snap general election.

So @theresa_may is on borrowed time. The ERG and its influence will be weakened. There's increased likelihood of an Article 50 extension and an urgent need for the entire Leave camp to ramp up its campaign now.

Rumours that Corbyn is talking to the DUP about a no confidence vote. DUP say that they will not consider this whilst the deal is still being negotiated.

Re: UPDATES: UK govt loses third vote on rotten Brexit deal, motion of no confidence looming? (pg. 71)-UK Government on verge of collapse
Theresa May's bid to make her Brexit deal more acceptable to MPs has suffered a blow after EU leaders said it was "not open for renegotiation".

She wanted legal assurances on the Irish backstop and had warned the deal itself was "at risk" over the issue.

But European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker said there could be clarifications but no renegotiation.

Labour says MPs must vote on the deal next week and it was "unacceptable" for it to be pushed back to January.

"This is becoming a farce," said Shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Keir Starmer.

"The prime minister pulled this important vote last week on the basis that she was going to get meaningful changes to her Brexit deal, She has obviously not."

So @theresa_may got a an absolute kicking tonight.

She made her pitch to the the EU leaders and they basically said no.

Compare and contrast. Ugly. #Brexit

There's a bigger scenario playing out here, the EU have accepted the electronic border in Ireland for the last

20yrs, yet refuse to accept the same border when we pull out, insisting on a hard border, hence the backstop.

This as people know will tie us in the EU for God knows
how long, or until the EU relinquishes it's grip, and

Theresa May wants us to trust them on this matter that's
why she's over there, I for one don't trust them, and

this is what is leading me to thinking there is something
bigger, and I can't get my head around it.

More obstruction, delays and lies from May. EU summit ends today and EU are still saying no re-negotiation. May should bring her deal for a vote on in Parliament next week now the EU summit is finished, but she won't. So it's Delay... delay... delay... until.... "Oh crumbs, we can't leave the EU with this deal, time to revoke article 50 instead"...
