"Bear Markets Everywhere": Over Half The World Is Now Down 20%

In a dramatic reversal to market sentiment that JPM's head quant could only ascribe to even more "fake news", SocGen's Kit Juckes writes this morning that "a week ago, market sentiment was optimistic after the G20 meetings in Buenos Aires. That's a reminder not to read TOO much into Monday morning markets!"

Picking up on this, another SocGen strategist, Andrew Lapthorne, writes that "having bounced back strongly post-Powell, equity markets slumped last week as the mood turned decisively bearish. MSCI World dropped 3.7%, leaving it 12.6% down from its late January peak."

It gets worse: as Lapthorne adds, the DAX, China A, Emerging Markets and a host of other markets are now in bear market territory; must be all the fake news out there that is preventing JPM's optimistic forecast from materializing. Putting the ongoing carnage in context, stock-wise 52% of MSCI World companies are down by more than 20% from their 52-week high, but only 38% of the market cap.

I just bought 50 shares of bread stock. That's right...whole grain daily loaf bread. The most boring stock in the entire world, and also 100% recession proof. Got in at a good price too. There's one thing people aren't going to stop buying--bread. Gold and silver come and go. Tech stocks crash and burn. Crypyo-currency is a delusion. But bread...bread is here to stay.

Interesting. You talking something like General Mills? How have these stocks held up historically during recessions?

Flower Foods. During the crash of 2008, Flower Foods lost less than 1% value during the entire recession. Bread. Just bread. Wonderful, boring bread stock. The only thing that actually is recession proof. Everything else was carsh n burn. But bread stayed true. :-)

Jesus was born in the House of Bread, Beth-Lehem. Joseph asked Pharaoh permission to oversee the stock graneries in all of Egypt to stock up for Bread during the 7 year famine and depression that swept over Egypt. And Joseph ended up practically owning Egypt.

During a depression/recession society is "receding" back to its foundational roots. Those physical, earthy foundations are grain and bread. We ask Heaven for our daily bread. "Cast your bread upon the many Waters, for after many days you shall find it again", said Solomon.

We're getting back to basics during a recession. We're thinking in terms of daily necessity. And that physical staff is always, always, always the Bread of Life. It never fails. It is a constant in any economy at any time in history.

Your only real physical stock with intrinsic value is Grain.

The thing about silver is it retains its buying power.During the depression a dime,silver at the time, would but a loaf of bread.I could take silver dime to a pawn shop and get scrap price,about 1.10.A paper dollar is worth whatever a dollar will buy.10 dimes made before 1965 ,face value a dollar, will scrap at 11 dollars.Silver holds its value much better than paper money.I believe i could still find a loaf of bread for under a dollar.

Just curious... How are food stocks impacted by dramatic downturns in crop output? Wheat has been hit hard by grand solar minimum and more dramatic crop losses are expected in the coming year.

That air filled shit isn't really bread.

The Bible already tells us what's going to happen to grain prices during an economic depression during a black sun season. They're going to skyrocket. Great for grain stock; terrible for consumers. You'll pay a day's wage for a week's worth of bread. And your silver won't matter, because though silver is a steady hedge again the dollar, it is not a steady hedge against grain prices based upon supply side economics.

Modern economists will often place silver as the hedge standard against an economic downturn on the buying power of fiat.

But you'll notice that Revelation places grain as the hedge standard against downturn in the buying power of even silver. Pay careful attention to such an economic judgment. Silver isn't currency; grain is.

I sure wouldn't mess with anything tech right now. I'm just trading on Robinhood with my play money. I just goof around, but if I'm buying, I'm buying down to earth.

Dow Jones was down -199 points today. Flower Foods stock rose +1.63 percent today. That's what I'm talking about. The market can be going crazy in meltdown mode or wild swings, but boring bread stock just steadily marches on.
