OP you said earlier that 'Magic is deception', did you mean all magic or just some?

Here...

Obligatory magic questions:

1) if they are a magic cult, what sort of magic is available to me at the current time?
 Quoting: TheBecomingest

The 'magic' part is metafiction. The real magic is deception.
 Quoting: Taom

I was referring to the secret, magic-based cult of the agents of chaos.

Their real 'magic' is deception.

I ask because I've learned that some magic is possible by reaching a state of consciousness through the use of will/intent and imagination/visualisation, that has enough force to alter reality.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73531769

Is it magic is you could remember 1,000 pages of text? Go several days without consuming food and water? Read the mind of someone who lived 12,000 years ago?

These things are not magic, but ability and technology.

Everything you think is enough force to alter reality. (Thinking alone alters it.)

When reality is perspective, learning how to alter your perspective is not magic but what we do at every moment (subconsciously, I suppose one could say).

And that our consciousness very much plays a part in the manifestation of physical reality.

That's just how things are. Not related to magic.

'Great' teachers have taught this for 1000s of years, were those magicians and mystics all chalatans and deceivers?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73531769

Pythagoras and related ('hermetic' magic) agents of chaos, yes.

Some others were just teaching how things are, and using various methods to discover an understanding of it. I wouldn't call it magic in the sense of an evil art, though. Each of us does this type of thing at every moment without realizing it.

Does not a word have "enough force to alter reality"? Making a soup recipe?

If we focus on butterscotch, more of it will be seen. Is that not altering reality?

If we think about sad things, we will experience more of it. Magic? No.
