Japan is notorious for having expensive fruit. I wonder if they are heavily mutated too some of their grapes are size of ping pong balls.

People in Japan are generally blind to what's put in food. It's extremely difficult to find organic food and grocers, for example. Ingredients are not well-marked, and nobody really cares. There's too much 'trust' with these things, which means there's lots of abuse. (There are also a lot of scams in general, which is ironic.)
But the grapes really are worth every penny. I never thought food could taste so good. (Who knows what they do to them, though.)
