If you were planning a large attack, this sort of diversion would be an ideal way to stretch intelligence, military, and law enforcement resources.

I guarantee, regardless of the credibility of the threat, millions has been spent today putting jets in the air, helicopters, cyber-resources, bomb squads, local police, fire and EMS, you name it.

If it's not a hoax then it's more than likely a probe or a diversion to move assets into place. In effect, it's like Mel Gibson stepping out from behind the tree in Patriot and hooping and hollering to draw attention so his boys could move.

My work in Mesa, AZ got a bomb threat! We had to evacuate the building around 11:30 MST

Several were received in my area too here in Northwest Indiana. Whiting High School was evacuated because of a bomb threat, as were several businesses in Valparaiso. All of the threatening emails demanded $20,000 in bitcoin to stop explosives from detonating in the buildings.
