Well first of all this "pastor" is selling something he didn't personally create himself.

Somebody else took all the risk and he's taking all the reward.

And he gets away with it because the original author isn't around to defend his own work.

It's intellectual property theft.

He is using somebody's else's work commercially to profit from.

But when it comes to their work they copyright it.

If you haven't got anything original to sell the Bible is the perfect product.

All you need is to be able to speak in front of large crowds and be convincing.

Now there is a salesman and it made him very, very rich.

If the estate of the original author was discovered and custody of the work was handed to it the church would vanish overnight.

Cease and desists would be sent.

Can you imagine somebody appearing and telling everybody they own the rights to Israel and the King James?

You didn't read the article, he also has a TV show with Oprah Winfrey and writes books, both things can be lucrative obviously.

Just because he is a pastor alongside being an author and TV presenter, it doesn't mean he needs to live in poverty or shambles even though he was deriving income through other activities and industries he pursues outside of the church. It's hypocritical for any of us to say we wouldn't buy nice things for our wives if we work hard and earn a nice income from it. It's none of our business.

If he was exclusively a pastor and the only thing he did was through the church and he was buying a Lambo with church money, I would agree, but it doesn't sound like this is the case.

The fact you even need to ask the question shows what a sham American Christianity is.

But the bible tells us it is wrong. So how can a pastor do it yet preach the Bible at the same time? The poor have more chance of eternal life than those that take pleasure in money and earthly things, as all Christians already know, but few put into practice. Some people don't make money because they are not the kind of people to sacrifice their lives in the way making money requires with meaningless careers. That does not always mean they are lazy, maybe they are closer to God. I live in a little house in the woods these days and grow my own food. I am poor. But far from perfect. And work much harder than most in careers. If you have money, give it to those that do not,( I don't require anyone's money, I get my daily bread so am ok.). Otherwise, are you really a Christian? The Bible says maybe not so much.
Don't take pride in having money. Don't brag about it. No true Christian ever would. I drive a 50cc vespa. That's a donkey in this world and I get insulted for it by many. I do many things a Christian should not, but when it comes to money and earthly things....that's the easy bit for me....not for others. As Christians we should all point out each others failings without offence being taken ( bear in mind the verses in the book of Revelation about people taking offence at everything in the last days). Any idea, work, or patent, becomes public domain eventually to be commercially used by anyone else else for their own profit and purpose. It used to be a relatively short timeline to exclusively profit from something before others could as well. This was by design.

I don't see how that's relevant. The Bakers literally committed fraud and were busted. There are obviously scummy Church owners, this guy could be as well for all I know. I'm just saying, he says he used his money he earned from writing books and doing TV outside of church activities.

I also know it's not my business to tell a person how they spend their own earned money. If it's earned honestly, he has no obligation to live or spend as others think he should. His purchase of the Lambourghini supports families as well, the car doesn't materialize out of thin air.

He has no obligation to donate 100% of his money and die in the cold because he is a Christian and a pastor.

This is much ado about nothing. Until someone can prove he is committing fraud and stealing from his church to do this, it's just bitter jealous people.

Keep this in mind, I don't approve of mega churches, or these pastors. I believe they are scams, as most churches are in general, but there is no vow of poverty that these people take, so if he buys expensive stuff with his own money, so be it.

So you create a product (let's say a book or a movie) which you created to inspire. You sacrificed everything you had to create it and give it to the world freely.

Somebody profits from it without your permission.

That guy talks poor people into giving them money in your name.

That guys gives you no credit.

At the bottom of this, we see that love of money is a root of evil. His ministry breathes it. People are jealous and offended about it. Others, that have more money than they should, can see how this is a vile act and they proceed to judge. Evil breeds evil. One dark stone cast into the pond creates many ripples. As it has been pointed out, this is just a small example of what goes on today in churches. Nevermind governments, for now.

Imagine if this man used that money to buy a house for a needy family that was left behind after a vet committed suicide. Not only would several lives see the end of a struggle, but good and light spread faster and deeper than evil. Instead of creating jealousy and contempt, the warm feelings of love and generosity would pass through the community. Truly, to be better we must give more, use less, and learn why through avenues like this thread. It’s getting very late, but there is still some time to change.



Father, thank you for making our false teachers more recognizable. Help us to show a new path to those bound in greed and materialism. Let them trust that you will provide what is needed each day.
