Next, the pope will bring up that the Holy Family became "refugees" in Egypt. This is also not true. Egypt, like contemporary Palestine, was part of the Roman Empire, and one can't be a refugee within the borders of his own country. Also, their being in Egypt was the result of an actual threat by the local governing authority, King Herod, who was in the process of slaughtering every newborn male child in his realm of influence. They were not economic migrants. Joseph had plenty of carpentry work available to him back home in Nazareth.

The main problem with this is the pope, and other leftists like him, conflate the Biblical commandment of individual Christians to help the poor, a commandment that can just as easily be satisfied by working at a soup kitchen as welcoming the entire Third World in to our countries, with government policy. It is the primary function of secular governments to protect their citizens. They are under no such commandment. To institute such a policy on Biblical grounds is tantamount to a Christian theocracy, and I thought that liberals were supposed to be adamantly opposed to that.
