Cannabis is highly addictive, causes mental health problems and opens the door to hard drugs, the study found. Last night Professor Hall, a professor of addiction policy at King's College London, dismissed the views of those who say that cannabis is harmless. 'If cannabis is not addictive then neither is heroin or alcohol,' he said. 'It is often harder to get people who are dependent on cannabis through withdrawal than for heroin – we just don't know how to do it.' Those who try to stop taking cannabis often suffer anxiety, insomnia, appetite disturbance and depression, he found. Even after treatment, less than half can stay off the drug for six months. Professor Hall found: One in six teenagers who regularly smoke the drug become dependent on it Cannabis doubles the risk of developing psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia Cannabis users do worse at school. Heavy use in adolescence appears to impair intellectual development One in ten adults who regularly smoke the drug become dependent on it and those who use it are more likely to go on to use harder drugs Driving after smoking cannabis doubles the risk of a car crash, a risk which increases substantially if the driver has also had a drink Smoking it while pregnant reduces the baby's birth weight [link to www.dailymail.co.uk (secure)] Your A Pill Popping Fool... I am a chronic pain patient. I have to take meds. Boom and there it is. You're suffering from some of the side effects of constant over medication. The mania, the obsessive and repetitive posts, the imaginary culprit, etc. That explains a lot. Hey, FWIW I fell out of a tree six days ago- massive injuries to my right foot, heel and ankle, surgery in ten days; titanium plates/screws, etc. So right now I'm living with zero use of my foot, 90-120 days of recovery (no use of foot) 23 hours a day with my foot above my heart- basically married to the bed and as of today they haven't done anything to the foot besides the splint. Can't operate until the swelling subsides and I have something called fracture blisters on the side of my foot that has the skin pulled away from the muscle about three inches, looks like I've got a cobra bite. You know what I'm using for pain? Sleep, aspirin, cannabutter and ice packs. Pain is in your head. You can deal with it and get better or you can let pain relief dominate your life and sacrifice the rest of your health trying to dodge what your body is giving you as an indicator of what's wrong. By living with it you are far more in tune with the recovery then hiding it underneath layers of pharmaceutical numbing. Hope you feel better. There's nothing inherently wrong with pain meh |
