I think you are one of the truly honest BRAVE ones. I think you will feel (if you don't already!) much freer, too, and true to yourself. It is obvious really that this holiday and the 'spirit of the holidays' is a very cynically-devised energy-transfer from us to whoever is the grand master of its inception.

It exploits people's emotions, is VERY FAKE, and enriches the Lords of Mammon and impoverishes all of us, ... very evil, if you think about it, and if they ('the man') have even got us to instill insecurity and distrust, and disappointment into our little trusting children (also engendering dissatisfaction with their material things), by lying to them about Santa Claus and all, it is all-around evil.

It isn't even 'Christ's Birthday' anyway, so the whole thing is a lie.

I don't know. It's like the spirit of Christmas has slowly died out. I remember as a a kid I used to look forward to Christmas for months in advance, and wish for a new toy or whatever. it was the best time of the year. But these days it feels like something is missing. Maybe it's just me growing older.

Agree with OP. Christmas is a RETAILER'S WHORE DAY to blow out their sales & inventories.

GOADING people to buy gifts. Possibly going into debt, buying what we can just buy ourselves. And look at all the Christmas stuff & items with tags still on them found at the donation stores or garage sales. Hmmmm....

And the Christmas Music is starting earlier & earlier. I too am tired of all the Christmas music.

An IDEA, let's not tell the retailers and change the date of Christmas to 5 January.

Festivus for the rest of us!

I haven't made a big deal about it for 10 years. Worked through many of them and just spent the day quietly for the rest. If you're big on family and stuff you don't need a holiday to see them or communicate with them. And the rest of what Christmas has become is pretty disgusting and targeting to the non-thinking masses. So you're not missing anything.

i stopped celebrating 'christmas' about 10 years ago. i havent missed it. around thanksgiving the annual brainwashing begins and i watch people spend all kinds of money they dont have only to regret it afterwards. i see people depressed about money, anxious about not getting their kids the right thing they want, and all the other nonsense. i like the idea of giving one gift per person and just enjoying family time together and be able to pay your rent after christmas. but i gave that up to as i grew older and now i dont worry about it. my family calls me the grinch but i tell them at least i can pay my rent when you are being threatened with eviction.

Yup, do the same thing. My husband, our sons and I (and our dog, of course) hide out in a cabin in Maine for Christmas and it's so peaceful.
