What about all of the archeological evidence of people living quite normally during these periods, out in the open?

12,000 isn't very long ago! Wouldn't that all have gotten wiped out? Where did all the animals come from? Did space aliens create an Ark for them?

Well, I am an engineer, not a geologist.

As others have pointed out, if these catastrophes had occurred, we would see a lot more physical evidence. For instance, humans would have been wiped out worldwide.

Still skeptical.

most of the surface is toasted and only a minority survive somehow. Well! There is no global evidence of a disaster of this magnitude at all, and we're good enough that we can see global evidence of massive meteor strikes or supervolcano explosions from millions of years ago (for example)
 Quoting: Really Now

Ancient megalithic building blocks measuring +1000 tons or more cut with high technology equipment and moved 100's of miles from quarry to the build sites are found worldwide.

These blocks are granite and world wide all similarly have the east facing surfaces melted. These blocks predate known civilizations and are +10-12,000 years old.

From this evidence I doubt the earth was standing still during the last cataclysmic CME because of that - maybe a slower rotation.

Even 1 rotisserie earth rotation at 2500F degrees and the DNA shredding from the (Nova)CME atomic particles would leave little to tell the story.
Those particles are detected more than 2 miles in the earth(where the sensors are) so 'digging in' would be a project.
