What about all of the archeological evidence of people living quite normally during these periods, out in the open?

What they actually mean is some kind of big solar flare, not a Nova. A nova destroys a star, it's the star exploding.

A big giant solar flare, that's a different story. Actually as previously mentioned what they are trying to scare you with is the plot of the movie 2012 or "The Knowing" lol - Yet what they are describing is also impossible, in that there would be absolutely clear evidence of this in the strata layers, where we can easily tell things like super volcanos going off, meteors hitting, etc. Live would have to restart almost from nothing each time, and there's clear and unquestionable evidence that none of that has happened heh

I did want to address just one of the points made above
concerning Schoch's including Gobekli Tepe in his research:

I've hosted a couple threads in the past on GLP using one
of the Gobekli Tepe pillars (called the "Vulture Pillar#42
image below.)

One thing that I noticed from my own research on Schoch's
using this particular pillar for his theory on the sun
is that it is incomplete without showing his readers what
I would call "The Rest of The Story!" (This would, of course,
include the research upon which almost ALL the theories
presently coming out about the Solar Micro-NOVA...by Dr.Paul
LaViolette. ) (Quick reference video to LaViolette's material

CLEAR references the "authors" at Gobekli
Tepe made to a SPECIAL POINT AMONG CONSTELLATIONS:
(Scorpius, Ophiuchus and Sagittarius)...at the
CENTER of the Milky Way. This is OBVIOUSLY
not about the sun or the sun's "Solar Micro-NOVA"
but something that is a CATAlYST to the solar
Micro-NOVA...The 12,000 year cycle of the
Galactic Super Wave--a "BURST" from the CENTER
of the Milky Way which ACTS ON THE SUN to cause a
