BOXING DAY PANICL: Screaming shoppers flee Stratford Westfield as cops swoop and arrest man with knife

Witness Alicia Porter said on Twitter "there was a very loud noise, lots of screaming and a crowd of people running a sprinting for exits".

Other footage shows a large number of officers on the second floor of the store by the escalator.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said that officers stopped a man after he was suspected to be in possession of a concealed weapon on the ground floor at around 4.20pm.

"He was stopped by police and searched and a knife was found. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon," the spokesman said.

Last year, cops confronted gangs of youths fighting in Westfield forcing shoppers to flee the Boxing Day sales.
