Been letting them out little by little since they were 4 months old. Quoting: OceanPro Opened the door this morning to let all 4 of them out. 3 came back. Searched the road for a corpse. Finding nothing. Thinking this thing will come back in a few days. It was particularly warm today in the high 50’s. Normally the snow and cold temps keep them close. Maybe a neighbor took it in. I won’t hesitate to open a door for a cold furry creature. I’ll fix your ugly face. |

It was being stopped by some neighbor cat that did not want it on its territory. So i intervened and let it get back home. Life is a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves. |

I would rather die at age 1 than live confined. |

Seemed to be in okay condition. Ate and wanted affection then slept. Quoting: OceanPro That's great, OP. Best possible ending to this story. The little guy had an adventure. Cats need those, too, just like people. Cats at that age are especially prone to adventure. My baby fur girl had lots of adventures for 13+ years, but she always came home (and now she's gone to her real forever home). Give your fur babies love and their freedom as well as food and a roof over their heads. They need love and freedom as much as they need food and a roof. If they know they're loved, they'll always come back, one way or another. Christianity 101 |

I know so many people whose outdoor cats were hit by a car, attacked, etc. Quoting: DiMethylTryptamine Maybe. But keeping cats locked in a house their entire lives is inhumane torture. It’s worse than Seaworld trapping an Orca in a small swimming pool. It’s fucked up and if you have an indoor cat that makes you a selfish asshole in my book. Plus indoor cats live a sickly life. They are fat and institutionalized. If you’re going to keep an indoor cat then you should not get a cat. I’ve had cats for 40 years. All indoor/outdoor cats. They are deeply happy and content animals. Far and away superior to indoor cats who are unhealthy, unhappy prisoners. Yes in/outdoor cats get in fights and from time to time get whacked on the road. But it is far far better for a cat to live one month outdoors and get killed than to live 18 years inside. Indoor cats are tortured. Don’t take life so seriously. Nobody gets out alive. |

I would rather die at age 1 than live confined. I've always been fascinated by the behavior of cats born in and/or raised within a human's domicile towards the great outdoors. Some have no interest whatsoever in exploring beyond their keeper's keep while others will insist upon sneaking out when they feel so inclined. Of the seven cats in my home, four of them were born here. One of those four, the smallest and most timid, spent almost the entire winter last year outside. I had even scratched her off the proverbial scratching post when the brief sightings tapered off to nil, but she showed up one day in the driveway, ready and willing to come back inside, and hasn't gone back out since. Her daddy, also born here, manages to get out every now and then, but very seldom. One of the other three that weren't born here was abandoned by being thrown out of a car window at about 7-8 weeks old, scooped up from the ditch by a good Samaritan travelling close behind who saw her ejected from the moving vehicle, and then brought to where we found and adopted her. She seldom goes more than a couple of months in between hiatuses of exploring outdoors for several days at a time. It seems like she stalks for an opportunity to sneak outside, but she always mews loudly as she runs past after one's opened the door, as if to say 'bye!' or 'i'll be back!' or some similar parting expression. |
