There's another important experiment that was close to being conducted but did not receive the required funding. This experiment would have actually settled once and for the question of whether an airliner could have penetrated the steel and concrete face of the Twin Towers. Many people don't seem to realize that the Twin Towers were constructed with the steel frame on the outside, not inside:
