I think that depends on factors such as genetics.

The scale starts to go back in your favor when you stop though.

This is same friend that was just diagnosed with diabetes. Got him to go to dentist first time in 25 years. He still dips a can of chewing tobacco a day and drank 2-3 Diet Cokes per day. Just learned he smoked 2 packs a day for 20-25 years. Menthols.

Just a terrible sounding cough on occasion, that afterwards he says he’s lightheaded and doesn’t feel good.

Only way to know probably is an Xray. Maybe a person would want to know, but maybe would be better of not knowing. Its a bad thing to happen to anyone. Only should be reserved for terrible people.

I'm sure your friend has friends who started smoking at the same time he / she did. How many of his / her smoking friends are already gone or have cancer now?
Based on my friends / family its a roll of the dice but its not IF but when...
as example, not in 25 years but perhaps 30 but that just a estimate.
Smoking killed all my older family in one way or another, if not cancer it was heart related.

I am against smoking and I have never smoked. However, I do think we simplify the cancer problem a little bit.

My dad smoked that mush for about 20 years. He quit when he was 40.
He is 93 and doing fine. No cancer.

Now, I do believe people get cancer from smoking (my mother did die from cancer).

George Burns smoked cigars a lot. And he lived to almost a hundred.

Of course, they are awful--but I do think we have been taught to oversimplify it a little.

You don't get lung cancer while smoking, you get 25 years after you've stopped smoking.

2008 allround worldchampion ice skating Pauline van Deutekom just died of lungcancer at the age of 37.

I don't think she ever smoked and was obviously one of the fittest people around.

Much more likely since 2012 when they made all cigarettes 'firesafe' aka lung assassins by adding bands of carpet glue to the papers.

Over $60 a day here. Almost your entire days wage at the bottom end - after tax.
