Quoting: Mr.Wonderpants Except thats not true. Hair will grow forever and will never stop at a certain length. Hair that is very long (past waist level) is prone to matting and collecting dirt and grease which then weighs down the hair. Constant pressure and weight on the hair follicles and scalp then causes them to get damaged and hair will fall out. People with dreads that are long and heavy experience this all the time. Most of the time the hair loss is permanent. Women and men who wear their hair tight also experience this. Long ago people in many cultures didn’t cut their hair, because it was a part of who they were. There were no salons. Often, when people were conquered or enslaved, their hair was cut as a recognized sign of slavery. It was also understood that this would serve as punishment and decrease the power of those enslaved. Quoting: Mr.Wonderpants No, they didn't cut their hair because they didn't have scissors until the Europeans brought it to them. Cultures who lacked scissors were left with cutting hair with single long blades which made cutting hair short very difficult. Those cultures who lacked blades resorted to using friction on bark or wood to cut hair. Again which meant shorter hair was not a possibility. From a yogic perspective, hair is an amazing gift of nature that can actually help raise the Kundalini energy (creative life force), which increases vitality, intuition, and tranquility. Quoting: Mr.Wonderpants I wouldn't take advice from a group of people that shit in the street and pollute their own rivers and lakes with the bodies of the dead and their waste. The yogic tradition of growing hair was formed as an opposition to the stance of Buddhism (bald heads) and they wanted to be seen as the opposite of their ideology. OMG I think I love you. Common sense and critical thinking shine brightly. |

If your protein, vitamin, and mineral intake is causing a deficiency of course your hair will stop growing. Anorexics get it all the time. Healthy people have hair that never stops growing. Cut Hair Long ago people in many cultures didn’t cut their hair, because it was a part of who they were. There were no salons. Often, when people were conquered or enslaved, their hair was cut as a recognized sign of slavery. It was also understood that this would serve as punishment and decrease the power of those enslaved. The bones in the forehead are porous and function to transmit light to the pineal gland, which affects brain activity, as well as thyroid and sexual hormones. Cutting bangs which cover the forehead impedes this process. When Genghis Khan conquered China, he considered the Chinese to be a very wise, intelligent people who would not allow themselves to be subjugated. He therefore required all women in the country to cut their hair and wear bangs, because he knew this would serve to keep them timid and more easily controlled. However, the life cycle of each strand of hair determines how long each person’s hair will actually grow. Also, the weight of the hair will cause it to be thinner. I know a guy who has worn a mullet for years and the long part is so thin you can see his scalp and the front is really thick where he keeps it short. Rolltideroll |

While quality matters, so does actually eating enough calories. Along with many other problems, I noticed my hair falling out at an increasing rate, it has barely been growing, and it's been oddly crunchy. Beyond dry. About 3 days ago, I stopped drinking anything but water, and made an effort to eat more calories. My hair is already noticeably softer. I'm hoping maybe it will start growing faster now. Quoting: Just Some Chick I started making protein shakes with brown rice protein powder, coconut milk, a banana, and a lot of different powdered supplements, amino acids, lecithin, magnesium, calcium, trace minerals, vitamin C complex, plus hemp oil, wheat germ oil, black cherry juice, raw cocoa powder, some honey, some other stuff I'm sure. Then I take other supplements with that as well. My hair is super thick and long and grows like crazy. There's almost too much of it and I have to take the time sometime soon to learn a new way to wear it up and get it out of the way. |

I recently had to trim it about 3-4" to even the bottom up a bit and get rid of split ends. That is the most I've cut my hair for almost 10 years now. I think the theory about hair thinning when it is long really depends on the person. My hair is still very thick. I try to eat fairly well and take supplements, so that probably helps.
