Walking in God's truth, what is needed to stay the course and not drift away, and to what?
"I Will Walk in Your Truth”

“Instruct me, O Jehovah, about your way. I will walk in your truth.”—PS. 86:11.

HOW WOULD YOU ANSWER?

What could cause a Christian to “sell” the truth?

How can we avoid either drawing away from or drifting away from the truth?

What are three ways that we can strengthen our resolve to walk in the truth?

1-3. (a) How should we feel about Bible truth? Illustrate. (See opening pictures.) (b) What questions will we consider in this article?

RETURNING an item that was purchased is a common practice. Estimates reveal that in some countries, buyers return nearly 9 percent of items purchased in stores. The return rate for items ordered online can be more than 30 percent. Perhaps the buyers found that the item did not meet their expectations, was defective, or was just not to their liking. So they decided to exchange the item or to ask for a refund.

2 Although we might request a refund for material goods that we bought, we would never want to return, or “sell,” the “accurate knowledge” of Bible truth that we “buy.” (Read Proverbs 23:23; 1 Tim. 2:4) As we considered in the preceding article, we acquired the truth by spending much time to learn it. In addition, to buy the truth, we may have forgone a lucrative career, dealt with changes in our personal relationships and in our thinking and conduct, or given up unscriptural customs and practices. However, the price we paid is small in comparison to the blessings that we have received

Re: Walking in God's truth, what is needed to stay the course and not drift away, and to what?
3 When it comes to Bible truth, our feelings are similar to those of a man whom Jesus described in a brief illustration. To show how precious the truth of God’s Kingdom is to those who find it, Jesus told about a traveling merchant who searched for fine pearls and found one. In fact, that pearl was of such high value that he “promptly sold” everything he had to buy it. (Matt. 13:45, 46) Similarly, the truth we found—the truth of God’s Kingdom and all the other precious truths we learned from God’s Word—is of such high value to us that we willingly and promptly made the sacrifices needed to obtain it. As long as we value the truth, we will “never sell it.” Sadly, though, some of God’s people have lost sight of the value of the truth they obtained—and have even sold it. May that never happen to us! To show that we deeply treasure the truth and that we would never sell it, we must heed the Bible’s admonition to “go on walking in the truth.” (Read 3 John 2-4.) To walk in the truth involves living it—giving it priority in our lives and conducting ourselves in harmony with it. Let us consider these questions: Why and how might some “sell” the truth? How can we avoid making that sad mistake? How can we strengthen our determination to “go on walking in the truth”?

WHY AND HOW SOME “SELL” THE TRUTH

4. In the first century, why did some “sell” the truth?

4 In the first century, some who initially responded favorably to the teachings of Jesus failed to continue walking in the truth. For example, after a large crowd had been fed in a miraculous way by Jesus, the crowd followed him to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. There, Jesus said something that startled them: “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in yourselves.” Instead of asking Jesus to explain, they were stumbled by his words and said: “This speech is shocking; who can listen to it?” As a result, “many of his disciples went off to the things behind and would no longer walk with him.”—John 6:53-66.

According to Jewish theology of the day in which Jesus spoke what he said was shocking as it is forbidden to drink blood. Probably 100% of those people did not speak hebrew and have only heard the words spoken by pharasies in the temple. People under estimate the power of litteracy and the ability to pick up His Word and learn these truths for ourselves. Jesus said these things knowing it would shock and send away most as they would not have understood in the slightest what he meant. Only those who were seeking the truth would have continued with him. Jesus was raddical then and those who follow him today are also labelled raddicals because we dont conform to peoples, especially societies views on most matters. Jesus is and always will be the True King and once he returns there will be no more arguments on the matter.

Re: Walking in God's truth, what is needed to stay the course and not drift away, and to what?
5, 6. (a) In recent times, why have some failed to hold on to the truth? (b) How might one gradually leave the truth?

5 Sadly, some today have failed to hold on to the truth. Some were stumbled by an adjusted understanding of a Bible passage or by what a prominent brother said or did. Others were offended by Scriptural counsel they received, or they let go of the truth because of a personality clash with a fellow Christian. Still others took sides with apostates and other opposers who misrepresented our beliefs. As a result, some deliberately began “drawing away” from Jehovah and the congregation. (Heb. 3:12-14) How much better it would have been if they had maintained their faith and kept their confidence in Jesus, as the apostle Peter did! When Jesus asked the apostles if they wanted to leave, Peter immediately replied: “Lord, whom shall we go away to? You have sayings of everlasting life.”—John 6:67-69.

Re: Walking in God's truth, what is needed to stay the course and not drift away, and to what?
6 Others have left the truth gradually, perhaps without even noticing what was happening. A person who gradually leaves the truth is like a boat that slowly slips away from the riverbank. The Bible describes such a slow change as ‘drifting away.’ (Heb. 2:1) Unlike one who intentionally draws away from the truth, one who drifts away does not do so deliberately. However, such a person strains his relationship with Jehovah and is in danger of losing it. How can we avoid such a tragic course?

The answer lies in the queation and explanation. Anchor yourself to the shore and keep an eye on the boat. Keeping yourself in The Word. Talk with Him and study daily never ceasing in your persuit. Re: Walking in God's truth, what is needed to stay the course and not drift away, and to what?
26. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

These 2 verses are The Concise Witness of The Born-Again Life; Given in Ezekiel ch 36....

There is no "walking in God's Truth" unless you are Born-Again.

There is NOTHING we can do, on our own to Have Relationship With Father-God. Coming Unto HIM in surrender of self is THE WAY Jesus Enabled for us Through The Gospel and HIS Sacrifice on calvary.

You have either Come Unto The Father, Stood IN HIS Presence, and made our surrender; or you haven't... You KNOW The Reality Of This/Your Experience, or you don't....

God's Word IS Truth!
Christ Jesus IS The Word Become Flesh!
Father Sent HIS Son To Bring The Gospel and BE The Propititation for all sin in order that HE Might Have Personal and Direct Relationship With Us...

St. John's Witness of The Born-Again Life in 1st John 2:20 is: "But you Have An Unction From The Holy One and KNOW All Things!"

I would suggest you seek your answer in The Gospel. There is no "learning" The Truth...

Father-God Plainly Says HE Will Enable us to KNOW and DO HIS Will, "walk in MY Statutes" and "Keep MY Judgments". Ezk 36:27.... Without first Being Born-Again, you don't have Knowledge of anything.

Jesus Plainly Says in Matt 13:11-15 that HIS Witness Is Given to those who Seek with their heart, not to those who seek with their intellect. "Therefore speakest I to them in parables, lest they understand, become converted, and (then) I Should Have To Heal Them".

There is no choice or decision to "Walk In Your Truth".
Not without FIRST Being Born-Again...

John ch 17 is Jesus' Witness of The Born-Again Life.
Read that chapter and reflect upon whether HE Describes the life you are leading now in there...

There is no "buying the Truth".
You either KNOW In Your heart WHO Christ Jesus IS, and that you can Trust Father-God Fully with every aspect of your life; and choose to Come Unto HIM, OR you don't.

Read Ezekiel 36:26-27. Father's Witness IS Complete. Yet, without having made your surrender, there is NO Knowledge for you to weigh or decide to accept.

All the BS you write here is reflective of your own conjecture-expectations and is PROOF you haven't Come Unto The Father (yet) To BE Born-Again.

The Born-Again Life is A Reality of Continual Conscious Contact With The Father... KNOWING HIM Total and Complete Reliance Upon HIM, and LIFE Lived In Confidence with the Absence Of Fear. Life Guided BY HIS HOLY SPIRIT WHO Dwells Within...

The Born-Again Life Comes By Father's Deliverance from our "stony (carnal) heart" Through HIS Giving Us "A New Heart Of Flesh" HIS Flesh!

Without the brokenness to surrender all we are and all we ever will be Unto The Father, we remain in carnal-hearted alienation from HIM.

Pretty Plainly Witnessed by Jesus in Matt 7:21-23... The IMPORTANT Fact Is Given in verse 21:
21. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Ever done Miracles? Cast-Out any demons? Prophesied In HIS Name? Those told "Depart From ME..." had... What they never did was Come Unto The Father to BE Born-Again... They weren't Enabled to DO The Will Of MY Father Which Art In Heaven, because they weren't Born-Again...

So... There IT IS... WHY Jesus Says: "Marvel not that I Say unto you: Ye MUST Be Born-Again!" John 3:7

If you would Walk In God's Truth, you have to manifest your Belief and Faith into Action and make your surrender Unto The Father.

Jesus' Witness in Matt 13:11-15 Says that those "Who Are Given To Know The Mysteries of Heaven" will have their Knowledge Increased, while those not Given To Know will have the little Knowledge they might have "taken away".

10. And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

11. He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

13. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

14. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

15. For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

There is NO KNOWING God's Truth without First Having Been Born-Again.

Of course, This IS The Laodicean church age. Jesus Witnesses most Christians will be "lukewarm", or almost acceptable... Almost, but not... The lukewarm Christians, HE SAYS, will be "Spewn forth from My Mouth!" Rev ch 3:15-17

The MOST Vivid and Violent REJECTION In The NT. Spat-Out like rotten food...

Lots of Witness of Rejection for those pleading with HIM to be allowed into Heaven. Matt 7:21-23, Luke 13:22-28, Matt 22:1-14, Rev 3...

How's your conjecture and expectation gonna hold up when God Tells you "Depart from ME, you who work iniquity; I KNOW YOU NOT!"

Got To KNOW HIM, if you would Be HIS...
Got to HAVE BEEN Enabled TO KNOW and DO HIS Father's Will.

Only ONE WAY Unto The Father... "...NO Man Cometh Unto The Father But BY ME!" John 14:6

You gonna Claim HIM? You best be able to Trust HIM Fully and then Take Action By Telling HIM So... Each person Comes Unto The Father on their own. Have to Manifest Your Heart Unto The Father... Trusting HIM Fully With All You Are and All You Ever Will BE! Thy Will, not mine, Be Done!!!

You have to KNOW The Father before you walk in HIS Truth!
YOu have to Give Your All Unto HIM Loving and Trusting HIM Fully with all you are and ever will be... This is either ON YOUR HEART as God's Truth which you can recognize and consider, or it's not....

If you reject my witness, that's just proof that your carnal-heart resists Father's Call.... You either actually KNOW In Your Love For HIM that ONLY HIS Will For You will Give You The Life you Need To Live. Only Through Relationship With HIM are we Enabled To Be What HE Made Us To Be...

These ARE The Final Moments... If you would BE HIS, Time To Tell HIM So!

Re: Walking in God's truth, what is needed to stay the course and not drift away, and to what?
I think the most important thing to keep in mind to stay on the righteous path is to keep your eye on the prize and take things one day at a time.

For me it is an easy decision to make now, because I know how important I am in God's plan and how many people will need my help in the future. To abandon God now would be like a soldier abandoning his unit and turning his back on them at the worst possible time!

Repent of your sins, learn to hear God's voice, obey Him, and endure until the end. This is the path to eternal salvation!

Can you look unto our hearts and judge us saying we will be spewn forth from his mouth like rotten food? Do you know for certin those Jesus spoke of are me or DGN ? Or everyone who doesnt have the same truth you do? Truth by definition is not relative and those who come to Jesus do so because we are drawn by The Father. You are citing John 14, after verse 6 where Apostle Phillip says "Shew us The Father"....

Jesus is Very crestfallen by this. 3yrs with them, and none Understand...
8. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
10. Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

There is no "born again in the spirit".
Think the Christians who had Done Miracles, Cast-Out demons, and Prophesied IN HIS Name weren't well-meaning and emphatic in their acceptance of Christ?

All they never found time to do was Tell IT Unto The Father... So they weren't Born-Again.

In Luke 13, it's Christians who knew Jesus... HE Stayed in their homes, ate with them, Preached in their street; but still Father Has them "bound hand and foot and thrown into the darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!"

They knew HIM, interacted with HIM, but never Came Unto The Father.

It comes down to this: Either you Came Unto The Father and Were Enabled to KNOW & DO HIS Will, and Live Without sinning; or you didn't so you weren't...

Christ ONLY KNOWS those that "Doeth The Will Of MY Father". We are ONLY Enabled To DO Father's Will Through our surrender of self and HIS Deliverance of us from our carnal, stony-heart.

ONLY Father Can Give us our "New Heart Of Flesh", because It IS HIS Flesh HE Gives Us...

Nobody "comes to Jesus".
Christ Serves ONLY HIS Father's Will.
Christ Does NOTHING But HIS Father's Will.
Christ Made THE WAY Possible, but It Was Father WHO Ordained That HE Should Come Unto The World.

If you were Ezekiel 36:26-27 Born-Again, you would KNOW God The Holy Spirit and KNOW HIS Witness. HE Does Witness to Born-Agains when they encounter another Whom HE Dwells With, whether in person, or in context of their speech or writings.

There is NOTHING More Important in our lives than Answering Father's Call. This is Plainly Given By Christ Jesus in Matt 22:1-14 where Jesus' parable of The King's Wedding Feast For HIS Son Witnesses the whole enchilada of Christianity.

There are 2 interlopers in Heaven Cited By Jesus in The Gospel. Luke 13:22-28 and the wedding-crasher of Matt 22:10-13.

Both men wanted very much to be in attendance in Heaven/The Wedding Feast. Both were forcibly and violently REJECTED.

I witness God's Truth here; what I Have Seen and Been Given To KNOW.

ONLY ONE WAY Unto The Father, Made Possible By Christ Jesus on calvary.

If we don't manifest our hearts, act on our Love by making our Leap Of Faith (surrender), then we have (Just like those in Matt 22:3-8) spurned The Father's Call and given no regard to Christ's Sacrifice.

There is no "coming to Jesus"; that is Laodicean bullshit. We aren't Born-Again by "accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour"; HE IS whether we "accept" The Truth or not.

If the righteousness of manifesting our heart Unto The Father is lost upon you (not saying it is, maybe you just have to consider it?), then there's not much more to say.

Doesn't matter to me.
I WAS Delivered From and Shown the consequences of living life with a carnal-heart.
No matter our effort or Belief, without being Given our New Heart Of Father's Flesh, we have no way to DO HIS Will or live free from sin.

All about Loving God enough to Trust HIM Fully with all we are and all we ever might be; and then ACTING on our Faith/Belief. Through HIM we are Brought Into KNOWING. KNOWING supersedes Faith and Belief. KNOWING HIM you can never forget the how, when, why, where, what and every other aspect of When You Came Unto HIM and stood In HIS Presence.

Christ Witnesses to Nicodemus in John 3:
7. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
9. Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
10. Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
11. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

ONLY God Is Worthy of our Total and Complete Trust. If we can't Come Unto HIM and make our surrender, we spurn Father's Call which HE Put Upon Our Heart.

Jesus Concludes HIS Witness in Matt 22:1-14 with "For many were Called, but few are Chosen!"

Father Chose Us when HE PUt Knowledge of WHO Jesus IS upon our heart. We have to Choose-Elect to Come Unto HIM in answering HIS Call.

Re: Walking in God's truth, what is needed to stay the course and not drift away, and to what?

I think the answer to your thread title's question lies within the private Christian walk with God. Nobody has all the answers. One day at a time, wait on God, surrender each day to God, take each thought captive and try to apply oneself.

Most spiritual battle takes place in the mind. I suppose it's no wonder why I suffer mental instability.

Re: Walking in God's truth, what is needed to stay the course and not drift away, and to what?
To clarify my "there is no born again in the spirit" remark...

Until Pentecost God The Holy Spirit had not been Manifested to anyone. There is no Relationship With God except Through Surrender Unto The Father.

HIS Regeneration, our New Life as Ezekiel 36:26-27 Born-Agains is not only Spiritual. Of course, we don't reenter the womb... Yet we DO KNOW that we Have Been IN Father's Presence and that HE Gave Us A New Life (a New Heart) With HIM!

There is no Knowing Christ or God The Holy Spirit without First Coming Unto The Father. If you can' remember when/how you surrendered Unto HIM; you didn't.

Being Enabled to KNOW and DO HIS Will is not something you can fail to experience.

Not Being Born-Again, you can't KNOW.
Doing HIS Will is not something that you as an outsider could recognize.

Your carnal-heart Betrays you with rationalization and procrastination.

As Jesus Says "We Tell you what WE have Seen and Know, and yet you reject Our Witness!"

THESE ARE The Final Moments!
I share my witness because I Was TOLD and Enabled To DO So.
Don't matter to me what you choose to do after you've read it. Doesn't even matter if you read it or not. I am Blessed By Giving my witness. There are very few in this Laodicean age that have Chosen-Elected To Trust God Fully and Come Unto HIM.

Only By surrender Unto The Father can HE Deliver you from your heart of stone; your "inheritance" from Adam & Eve who chose life through self-will rather than Life In and Through HIM.

I Was Totally Blessed By being sufficiently broken and motivated to give my all Unto The Father. One thing I KNOW and Was SHOWN, there is no "good" in life, but that which Is In Accord With The Father's Will...

Until we are Born-Again, no matter our effort or intent even our best efforts to please HIM are worthless and alienated from HIS Will.

But you have free will..
Ignore HIS Calling if you choose.
Remain a "worker of iniquity" which means one following their own self-will.
All that matters is Coming Unto The Father....

Maranatha!!!

Re: Walking in God's truth, what is needed to stay the course and not drift away, and to what?
7. What initial step will help us to avoid selling the truth?

7 To walk in the truth, we must accept and obey all of Jehovah’s sayings. We must give the truth priority in our lives and live according to Bible principles. In prayer to Jehovah, King David declared: “I will walk in your truth.” (Ps. 86:11) David was determined. We too must be firmly resolved to keep walking in God’s truth. If we are not, we could have second thoughts about what we paid for the truth and perhaps be tempted to begin taking back part of the payment. Rather, we carefully hold on to the complete truth. We recognize that we cannot pick which truths to accept and which to ignore. After all, we must walk in “all the truth.” (John 16:13) Let us reflect on five things that we may have paid for the truth. Doing so will strengthen our resolve not to be lured into taking back even part of our payment.—Matt. 6:19.

Perhaps! But what if one tries to sell his soul and repents. What if he were to come back from it with renewed zeal for The Lord and become greater in strength through His name. The Father works in mysterious ways and the only evil that happens on this earth does so because He allows it. All things work towards his glory and his mercy is great.

Re: Walking in God's truth, what is needed to stay the course and not drift away, and to what?
8. How could unwise use of time cause a Christian to drift away from the truth? Give an example.

8 Time. To avoid drifting away from the truth, we must make wise use of our time. If we are not careful, we might start to spend excessive amounts of time on recreation, hobbies, browsing the Internet, or watching television. Although these things are not wrong in themselves, the time we spend on them can begin to encroach on time previously spent in personal study and other spiritual activities. Consider what happened to a Christian sister named Emma. * From the time of her youth, Emma had a passion for horses. Whenever she had the chance, she went horseback riding. After a while, she began to feel uneasy about all the time she spent on her hobby. She made adjustments and eventually succeeded in keeping recreation in its proper place. She was also encouraged by the experience of Cory Wells, a former rodeo trick rider. * Emma now enjoys spending more time in spiritual activities and with her Christian family and friends. She feels closer to Jehovah and is at peace, knowing that she is using her time wisely.

Re: Walking in God's truth, what is needed to stay the course and not drift away, and to what?
9. How could seeking material advantages cause some to put aside spiritual pursuits?

9 Material Advantages. If we are to continue walking in the truth, we must keep material things in their proper place. When we learned the truth, our interest in material things became secondary to our spiritual pursuits. We were happy to make material sacrifices in order to walk in the truth. Over time, however, we may see others buying the latest electronic devices or enjoying other material advantages. We could begin to feel that we are losing out. No longer content with the necessities, we might put spiritual pursuits aside in favor of accumulating material possessions. Such a course reminds us of Demas. His love for “the present system of things” led him to abandon a life of service with the apostle Paul. (2 Tim. 4:10) Why did Demas leave Paul? Whether he loved material things more than spiritual activities or he was no longer willing to make personal sacrifices in order to serve with Paul, the Bible does not say. We surely do not want to rekindle a desire for material things and let those attractions crowd out our love for the truth.

The "Christian Walk With God" is NOT Private...
Until you are Ezekiel 36:26-27 Born-Again, you are alienated from The Father.

Once you Have Stood In Father's Presence, it ain't Private. Sharing Your Witness IS The Born-Again life.

Living IN and Through HIM, in Relationship of Conscious Constant Contact Gives us The Joy and Desire to Witness what we Have Been Given To See and Know.

Any mental instability you suffer from results from your inability to Trust God Fully and Come Unto The Father In Surrender.
