The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who has been born of the Spirit. |

Sucks when you have to put your car in the shop for the day for a slow leak in the tire. Quoting: Jack the Hun Well, the tire centers are everywhere and will stay that way. But we have autoshops still around. Yes, you have to go to the dealer a lot these days because of all the complexities, but the ones at the gas stations and stand alones will be gone. “I’m the wall that progress ran into" |

Fully self driving cars are right around the corner. Gm currently has the best system with Tesla being ranked 5 or 6. With self driving vehicles there will be much less need for traffic police, traffic court, fire/rescue, attorneys, insurance companies, hospitals, body shops, performance shops, auto parts stores, ect. Cities will need to find new streams of revenue. They will also lose the income from the gas tax. I don't believe they will let this happen as it would crash the economy. Ericmp1989 |

An electrical motor has 20. 3. Electric cars are sold with lifetime guarantees and are only repaired by dealers. It takes only 10 minutes to remove and replace an electric motor. 4. Faulty electric motors are not repaired in the dealership but are sent to a regional repair shop that repairs them with robots. 5. Your electric motor malfunction light goes on, so you drive up to what looks like a Jiffy-auto wash, and your car is towed through while you have a cup of coffee and outcomes your car with a new electric motor. 6. Gas stations will disappear. Parking meters will be replaced by meters that dispense electricity. Companies will install electrical recharging stations; in fact, they’ve already started. note: You can find them at select Dunkin Donuts and all motorway service station locations. 7. Most (the smart) major auto manufacturers have already designated money to start building new plants that only build electric cars. 8. Coal industries will disappear. Gasoline/oil companies will disappear. Drilling for oil will stop. So say goodbye to OPEC. 9. Homes will produce and store more electrical energy during the day and than they use and will sell it back to the grid. The grid stores it and dispenses it to industries that are high electricity users. Some good points. Far less engine / motor works. Won't need brake jobs so often with regenerative braking. (I believe there are backup brakes though.) But we'll need MORE electricity generation. Instead of oil, we could use coal, or nuclear, or solar, whatever works. My vote is for modernizing the nuclear industry. . So nope. Quoting: BremertonHardcorePunk they said the same about PCs of the early 1990s. But look what happened. There will always be zillions of applications for gas engine vehicles, no matter what. For example, the ferries of WA state have electric motors that directly power their props to go powerfully through the water; however, there is a DIESEL engine on the ferry attached to a huge generator that powers the electric motors. Think that's gonna change to all batteries some day? I don't. Hemp diesel fuel might be an answer some day. |

States are already starting to add mileage monitors to tax based on miles instead of fuel tax. Electric vehicles still use roads. I’m not so much opposed to the tax although I would be pissed if I made extra for electric only to not get to realize the savings. I don’t like the tracking device though. How about they just read the odometer at registration renewal each year. [link to www.cbsnews.com (secure)] |

BUT As driver assist technologies become more and more available in vehicles (and all other manner of tech) it will get to the point where newer vehicles will only be able to be serviced by their respective dealerships. technicians used to get a 2 year degree and when done be able to fix almost anything. That not the case anymore in an age where having the newest version of some software package is more important. Service centers will focus more on consumables such as tires, wipers, batteries and bulbs, the more complicated jobs will go back to the dealership. Fleet service will become more of a thing too. Fewer and fewer people want to even own a car, so folks are relying on transportation services to get around (no need to pay for a car, maintenance, fuel, insurance). In the conversion from fuel to electric you lose about 50% of energy. Solar and wind always need a 100 percent backup when there is no sun or wind so fossil fuel generating plants can’t be shut down. You run them part time will create a lot of inefficiency. As for electric motors they are more complex than you image. They must have circuits that controls starting and other situation and mechanical they have bearings that must be maintained and replaced. Also to be efficient the braking should be tied into generate electric. Now most college graduates can’t add air to tire are put windshield fluid in. Yes repair center will remain |
