Not sure but i do CGI myself, and its possible to fake it, but it all depends on what on the ground witnesses there were, and remember its from 2007 which makes fakes of this detail harder.

This was a marketing scheme by Bungie, to promote their next Halo game. And... If you think cranking the gamma up on an image until you have blasted all fine detail out of it is 'enhancement', I suggest you ask for a refund on that home CSI course you found in your comic book.

This was debunked. Someone had a 2d model of it. It is cgi.

seems to be a tendency of AI upscaling but its possible it was hinting that it was there.

In CGI this would be bump mapping or displacement texture.

I've been searching google images for CGI spaceships produced between 2007 and 2008 and i can tell you that this drone is absolutely up there with the absolute state of the art highest realism for CGI hard surface modeling of the time. (and the number of renders they put out of that quality for 2007 would mean some serious compute power and time! The software was not as advanced did not use GPUs for rendering at all, and here is an example top end intel chip of the time (The Core 2 Extreme QX6800 clocked at 2.93 GHz was released on April 8, 2007, at US$1,199. It had a 130 W TDP thermal envelope and 4 cores, and was intended for high end OEM-only systems))


Then i found this interesting article which mentions they reached out to G.L. and ILM to try and get them to comment on its authenticity.

These are the best i could come up with for the photo under the telephone pole. For fun, one is stylized to 1950s the other one is to look a bit more aesthetically nice. And the largest one is just the clearest direct enhancement i could make.

There is an In Depth and ongoing coverage of the so called "DragonFly drone UFO" in this place, most notable for me is the interview with a person that did not take a picture but used one of the symbols to put in her purse after seeing it, in 1981.
