It's official: This document originates (or was adapted) from a non-US source. EDIT: This spreadsheet seems to reference (and perhaps this is stipulated) Murderpedia, and the Murderpedia entries include terms such as "tram stop," for example. However, in the case of Eric Harris + Dylan Klebold, the spreadsheet creator opts for "sawn-off Savage 67H," even though the original Murderpedia entry uses "sawed-off" and "sawed" exclusively. The spreadsheet author clearly prefers the non-US term, using "sawn-off exclusively. Last Edited by Ma Bu-Feng on 01/09/2019 05:41 PM |
Zefyr (OP) User ID: 69950254 United States 01/09/2019 05:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Interesting: Spreadsheet author prefers the alas "Jiverly Voong" to the Murderpedia primary name, "Jiverly Wong." Attempt by Chinese author to de-Sinicize as many names as possible (given the staggering percentage of ethnic Chinese Murderpedia entries?) And--wait for it--the first Chinese national on the spreadsheet, Tian Mingjian, is in 10th position. BUT - the spreadsheet author gives "23 killed" and "scores" injured, whereas Wikipedia has 29 killed and 30-80 injured (was it hard to tell??) If Wikipedia is correct, our Tian Minjian should be in 8th or 9th position. Last Edited by Ma Bu-Feng on 01/09/2019 05:51 PM |

So far it's only guns, knives, vehicles, defenestration, hammer, wrench, etc. So the guy who threw one person out of a window is in "Adam's mass killing spreadsheet," but Timothy McVeigh (or whoever) is not?? |

Its an endless wormhole. Yikes - I wonder why it was taken down? In trying to understand who else might have created a spreadsheet including the fields "province" and "ending" (oy), I found another site that links to the "Lanza" spreadsheet, so let's try using that for now--probably a more stable source: This is the PDF itself, from that site: [link to schoolshooters.info (secure)] And this is the Lanza page on that site: [link to schoolshooters.info (secure)] I did a Wayback search and it looks like the infamous spreadsheet was added recently. I was surprised to see the Archive.org site (until now). |
Zefyr (OP) User ID: 69950254 United States 01/10/2019 02:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So the language of the spreadsheet is very UK/AUS/NZ/CA; it could also be from (for example) an Asian source which leans toward that brand of English (say, China). So, things to investigate: 1. Who else in the world uses this collection of field titles (if anyone?) 2. Note certain fields that jump out: a. "province" instead of "state" b. "endings" to indicate how it ended (this is odd English; possibly translated from another language) c. "firearms" as a separate field from "weapons" - this field concentrates on how a weapon was acquired--interesting d. "sawn-off" instead of "sawed-off;" again, non-American source e. Why no explosions/bombing field? 3. Is there evidence of attempt to de-Sinicize? 4. You gun people here: aside from "sawn-off," can we learn anything from the author's choice of firearm lingo? |

Zefyr (OP) User ID: 69950254 United States 01/10/2019 02:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No grammar-obsessed "Adam Lanza" would use "firearms" as a field name that also includes knives, and refers not even to weapon type but to HOW the weapon was acquired. It's botchy and clumsy, and this guy on the other hand goes into literal tirades at other people for not using logical English. So--this ain't him. |
Zefyr (OP) User ID: 69950254 United States 01/10/2019 03:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | IF the author of Sandy Hook Lighthouse is on the right track with his theoretical tracking of "Lanza," then there does seem to be a hit in cross-referencing the current spreadsheet, and Wikipedia users Kaynbred, Smiggles, and KnaveSmig. Lo and behold, Kaynbred uses "sawn-off." [link to sandyhooklighthouse.wordpress.com (secure)] SHL's bit on KnaveSmig is interesting: On a particular Wikipedia user’s “Talk” page, just after midnight UTC on June 20th 2012 (or June 19 at 8:20pm, Newtown time) another user posted links to an Excel file they had uploaded, describing the spreadsheet file as their custom “mass murderer list.” The message was posted under the username “KnaveSmig”. [link to sandyhooklighthouse.wordpress.com (secure)] Now look at one excerpt from this alleged post by "Lanza." "Compared to the legions of people who focus solely on serial killers, it’s almost impossible to find anyone who’s interested in mass murderers, so I thought that I might as well introduce myself. I’ve been researching this topic since 2006 and I started compiling a formal list at the beginning of 2010. We basically use the same criteria, but the main difference is that I leniently define “mass murders” as involving a minimum of four casualties, whether through deaths or injuries. Even if I could hope to be as thorough as you are, my list isn’t meant to be a comprehensive chronicle as much as it’s meant to help with answering statistical questions— albeit rather poorly since it really should be twice its current size. But if it weren’t for you, “twice” would be closer to “thrice”. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were responsible for 1/4 of my list, let alone the boundless complementary information you’ve provided on the other mass murderers. You’ve been incredibly helpful here. I haven’t had the motivation to do much with my list since its first few months, and it’s currently in a mid-revision state, so the whole thing really isn’t much of anything to be excited about; but if you want to see it, here it is in all its mediocrity: (dead link removed)" 00:20, 20 June 2012 (UTC) The second message followed about 25min after, pointing out a mistake on the spreadsheet: "Wow, ignore the negligent formatting error which placed Anders Breivik below William Unek. What an appropriate testament to my incompetency." NOTE: In the spreadsheet provided to the public allegedly from Adam Lanza's (presumably most recent) copy, Anders Breivik is missing. |

I appreciate your diligence, veracity, and point of view when it comes to SH. Well, that's very kind of you to say. And I appreciate having a rational conversation with someone for a change, lol! I originally thought the spreadsheet author's use of "sawn-off shotgun" was suspect, but I do see that the Wiki user some claim is Adam also uses "sawn-off." Doesn't mean this individual is "Adam," but it might indicate that it is the same person, whoever that is. Neither the Britishy "sawn-off" nor awkward column titles match the concept of an overly-exacting, American teenager, IMO. I mean, imagine this "gamer" trying to refer to "sawn-off shotguns" in a gaming forum. I dunno. Just don't see it. And what wanna-be mass-murderer gives a damn whether weapons were acquired legally or illegally? That really smacks of a government focus group or investigation of some kind--not a teenager trying to "outdo all other mass killers." |

Just scanned through it and there is a lot of Adams old school work, a lot of reports and there is some stuff that is redacted. Quoting: SD250775 That spreadsheet is a strange bird. The categories (column headers) just don't make sense. Some of them are awkward e.g. seem to have come from a non native-English-speaking source. Others are clumsily redundant, i.e. not exacting. And on top of it all, mass murder by explosion/incendiary device isn't included. |
