From what I've been able to understand about Islam and what it means to be a Muslim, it is an elite form of Christianity, while mainstream Christianity is a bastardized form of pagan worship, cobbled together with many other beliefs, trying to make everyone happy, because they don't really believe in one being or Creator making everything without help of other lesser gods and other celestial beings.

Look at the difference between how each prays. The Muslim lowers their head to the ground in respect, while the christian proudly defies their god and will only yield to their knees.
