BREAKING: Trump just tweeted that he is planning a potential "pathway to citizenship" for immigrant H1-B visa holders

Immigrants are usually foreign.

He is betraying American workers.

If they have a visa then they are there legally.

Making it harder to get a visa and cracking down on illegal immigration aren't mutually exclusive with making legal immigration for visa holders easier.

yes, of course they are working legally, possibly at the expense of American jobs. but Trump's plan now is apparently to allow them to obtain citizenship and stay as citizens and that has never been the case in the past.

yup. H1b1 workers undercut the wages of American workers by working as a cheap labor. Dallas,SFO and New Jersey are full of them.

if quotas are established and tied to economic indicators such as the employment and unemployment rate for example it is much better policy than currently exists.

this should cover unskilled labour needs specifically.

so in March of last year, he was planning changes to H1-B visas because "jobs must be offered to Americans first" and now he is keeping H1-B visas *plus* allowing the immigrants to become citizens and stay.

i am baffled.

Many democrats voted for Trump in 2016 only because he promised to go after h1b1 fraud which he never did but promising to offer them citizenship now. He needs to get off the bed and talk to the American workers who got replaced by h1b1 young workers from India at Disney and Sun Edison.

H1-B visas are not for unskilled labor. they are for *temporary* employment of foreigners in specialty, skilled occupations.

That's bullshit. Companies are hiring them as cheap labor. I know these people working for $30/hr as Java developers for a 6 month contract assignment.

I'm not disagreeing with you. The point is that people like Java developers are highly skilled and require a degree. Those are the jobs that new American college graduates are looking for.

Once they become citizens, they are here for good, competing for more highly paid management positions.

So if your son or daughter is in college now, there's a better chance that after they graduate, their boss will be named Kumar.

The reason they are here is so the company execs can get bigger bonuses. That’s the only reason.

I thought HB1 workers are more of the computer programmer / college grad types that move here from India?

Those guys are usually nice people, honest family men/women. BUT, they do take jobs from US college grads so I'm not a big fan of the program
