A bill introduced in Congress this week that seeks to regulate marijuana like alcohol has been numbered "H.R. 420," a name the bill's sponsor has called a "tongue-in-cheek" reference to cannabis.

A press release from U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer — a Democrat from Oregon who is the founder and co-chair of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus — says that "while the bill number may be a bit tongue in cheek, the issue is very serious," according to Forbes.

"Our federal marijuana laws are outdated, out of touch and have negatively impacted countless lives," Blumenauer is quoted as saying by the publication. "Congress cannot continue to be out of touch with a movement that a growing majority of Americans support. It's time to end this senseless prohibition."

Blumenauer's proposed bill would remove marijuana from the federal controlled substances list. The "Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act" would establish regulation for cannabis that would be overseen by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
 Quoting: McCruise

And most noteworthy is it will provide for major tax revenue for the government to utilize for many services, infrastructure improvements, etc.

Watch out for upcoming regulation that, if this passes, will affect firearm ownership.

Just sayin.

Congress never had the right to ban it in the first place. It's a God given plant and we have the God given right to say what we do with our own bodies. If we aren't harming another with it then it's nobody's business. The only regulation would be the same as with food. If you're going to sell it then it has to be safe.

You can't regulate cannabis like alcohol. How are you gonna deal with second-hand cannabis smoke in the air or where people can smoke and people growing and manufacture cannabis products at home?
 Quoting: Cannabis Kills People

You can't regulate Cannabis like Alcohol???

Do you have any idea what it takes to operate a "legal" Cannabis grow operation in Canada? Obviously not with a statement like that.

For every 10Kg of dried Cannabis, each LP or Micro license holder must take about 200gr and have it Lab tested (by a certified Health Canada Lab) for various Chemicals, Microbes, Mildew, Pesticides, etc. Each Lab test cost around 3-5K...and the producer can NOT sell 1gr of that 10Kg batch/lot until it is cleared by the Lab and then Health Canada.

So, if you have a grow that is i.e. 1000Kg (very small operation)...that would be ~$300-500,000 in testing costs. Not chump change.

Second hand smoke??? I would worry more about the exhaust from Cars/Trucks before Cannabis smoke. Plus, it would take someone smoking a joint and blowing the smoke in your face for the entire joint for you to 'feel' anything.

Manufacturing products at home??? Not unlike the home brewers or people that make Wine at home...what is the difference?

CKP...bring it. I can debunk anything you throw out regarding Cannabis.
 Quoting: Mr. Canna

Are you for real?
I seen many diff complaints already about Gov weed having mold, mildew, bud rot, and sometimes almost no buds but shake. They charge 5000 for a lab test yet the stuff they sell is complete garbage and would be hard to find shitty stuff like that from your average dealer.

This is criminal what the government is doing charging 5000 for a lab test . Weed should be decriminalized, not licensed or regulated.

Its a plant how can the gov pretend to own a plant when its god given like the land it grows in.
 Quoting: elitedestini

Yes, you are correct. There have been complaints from the general public since the recent legalization of Cannabis in Canada...and those products have been removed from the shelves. This is what Regulation and Monitoring can do. The process of "Seed to Sale" is what allows the producer to monitor its' entire crop (bar/scan codes on each and every plant grown). With that code, they will know exactly who grew it, what processes were involved to grow it (nutrients, pesticides, etc) and who handled the plant at every stage...including the packaging and distribution.

Be thankful that when you buy your 'stuff', if there is anything wrong with it, you have the opportunity to 1. get your money back, 2. replace the product and 3. the producer has the opportunity to go back on their records to find out at what stage caused the (for lack of better words) incident...and fix it.

Try doing that with your Grey/Black market dealer...LOL

to the point of only making suppliers ID for age verification

Young ones should have to wait till 18/21 like they do for booze

beyond that, it should not be regulated. You should be able to grow all you want for personal consumption

it is a god damned weed....requires no human input to grow and bud.

I can throw seeds in a ditch and come back 3 months later and harvest...fact.

It is not like wine or beer or liquor that require human interaction to "make it"...weed makes itself

Something else to think about.

Compare Cannabis to any food product. If you end up going to a store and buying Milk that has the wrong expiry date or buy bread that has mold in it...you can make your complaint to the store and the store 9.9/10 will accommodate you.

How many times have you bought weed from your "guy" and found hairs in it...or tiny little mites, or a variety of other potential issues that you didn't like...but could do NOTHING about it.

Legalization and Regulation is a good thing for the consumer.

Note: If you want to get into the Cannabis business but don't want to grow...having a Lab certification is a GREAT way to make money...because every single grower that plans to sell to the public whether dried smokeable weed or weed used in processing for oils/edibles/drinkables, etc...MUST have their products certified by a licensed and approved Lab...period!

There's no constitutional authorization to make hemp, marijuana or anything else illegal for that matter.

Why would they need a constitutional amendment to ban alcohol? Because it was required to ban it, you have to amend the constitution.

Why do people have such a hard time following the law?
 Quoting: Crypto-Tard

There are 18 enumerated powers. Plants and beverages are NOT included in the granted and enumerated powers. The Whisky Rebellion was over this expansion of authority.

And you're exactly right on alcohol. But when the Constitution is suspended via emergency, we don't actually have Constitutional constraints in place any longer.

In other words, through lies and disinformation.
Things are bad enough, there is no need to make anything up.

Yeah and would END the "Prop Vote" that helped the DIMMS regain the House.

The DIMMS are very smart in cherry picking PROP issues to drive out voters in mid-terms...

Several States like Michigan the "Weed Prop" turned out record numbers of stoners and flipped some red seats...without that prop Michigan would still remain BRIGHT RED.

Trump needs to decriminalize Weed before 2020 and take that under 30 vote AWAY from the DIMMS.
