1 Corinthians:21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
Quoting: Vunger1 Tongues in fact, is not the evidence of the "Holy Ghost"! There are nine gifts of the Holy Spirit in which Tongues is the least of the nine. Read your scriptures for yourself. What does that have to do with the people possibly getting upset with Paul? 20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men. speaking in tongues as done by Pentecostals (i am a 3rd generation Pentecost) is for the speaker as a gift and for the unbeliever...... see how this works...... the so called believer is the actual unbeliever and gets the GIFT for strength. the children receive this 'tongues' willingly...... the adults ......those who grow beyond the 'sensual' nature of 'tongues'..... reject the desire to remain in this childlike acceptance of the power placed on tongues. The adults in the room know of the mysteries hidden in plain sight in THE WORD. The mysteries known to the adults....the mature man and woman.....show the immaturity of the children (males/females) speaking gibberish....without offence. Think little children (males/females of Gen 1) learning to talk .....and how cute it is.....but it is not carried into matured adulthood (man/woman of Gen 2).
