Im "Pentecostal" and I know Tongues are the Evidence of the Holy Ghost...But

1 Corinthians:21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.

22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

have you been baptized as of acts 2:38?

you say you are pentecostal so I am guessing you have been

remember when Jesus said the sermon on the mount

he said to pray not like heathens always repeating
but rather everything from the heart when talking to God?

this is a very important reason why He said this


God wants us to have a literal living relationship with Him as you would your biological dad
God created us in the womb

He is our Father


Go to Him as a true son and speak from the heart

When you come from the Heart the speaking and ask in earnest for the Holy Spirit God will give it to you

so when you were baptized, did it feel like you were doing something mechanical
or was it something that truly wanted to do out of your own free will for repentance and to receive the Holy Spirit that is our teacher through this life?

When we are being raised as babes by the Holy Spirit it guides both the heart and the mind equally

Edifying in tongues may produce something within us, but what about the receiver...what God wants is for us to be guided by both heart and mind in Christ.
Build up the truth of the gospel in others, ,as the words are a sword of truth that separates lies and evil from good
this is how people come to know God
it awakens something within them

so saying 5 words that will pierce their heart in truth can be more powerful than speaking in tongues

when our hearts are circumcised by the spirit of truth we are raised and taught by the spirit of God in the heart and the mind
God supplies us what we need to say at the very time it needs be said

Tongues are not evidence of 3rd person Trinity or first person Trinity. they are evidence of nothing. I knew some pentecostals and they would blather on making noises and claiming tongues.

Why is Paul , afraid they will be angry?

Tongues in fact, is not the evidence of the "Holy Ghost"! There are nine gifts of the Holy Spirit in which Tongues is the least of the nine. Read your scriptures for yourself.

What does that have to do with the people possibly getting upset with Paul?

20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.

Try reading a better version, because you are not finding understanding in the one you are using.

It's not about them getting upset with Paul. He's telling them to think about others, instead of themselves like children. In context, they had been speaking in tongues without an interpreter. This was selfish, like children.

This is not about speaking in tongues. I'm suspicious of this concerning repetition. Of course we always want sincerity and heart filled prayer, but in working to attain ceaseless or extended prayer, there will be times of dryness, doubt and other negativities. But repetition programs the subconscious. Over time, the effects are profound. It is like saying to a runner, don't keep running unless you are completely happy and feeling no pain, when actually, the greatest effect of the training is in pushing against resistance.

i have always believed in The evidence of tongues.
When i read this passage in Corinthians, i find Paul trying to make an appeal to them to not become angry about what he is about to tell them.
And what he tells them is , "Tongues are for a sign , not to them that believe but to them that believe not."

He even gives the reference to Isaiah 28, "with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people"

Which was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost. And after referencing this passage in Isaiah, he tells them "Tongues are for a sign , but not to the beliver...the only way this could have been upsetting was if this were their sign(evidence) of having received the Holy Ghost. Imagine going in a oneness church and trying to preach this, you better first appeal to them to be men in understanding, but in malice/anger be ye chidren.

I think im seeing where Paul was coming from...

People get upset over the truth all the time, its indicative of those yet unsaved. And people were much more upset with Paul when he was called Saul. What is your biblical question for me? Sorry no offense intended.

Tongues is evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost for without said baptism there would be no speaking in tongues!

And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Please read the scriptures and digest the whole word we have been given before teaching lest you lead any astray.

speaking in tongues as done by Pentecostals (i am a 3rd generation Pentecost) is for the speaker as a gift and for the unbeliever......

see how this works...... the so called believer is the actual unbeliever and gets the GIFT for strength.

the children receive this 'tongues' willingly......


the adults ......those who grow beyond the 'sensual' nature of 'tongues'..... reject the desire to remain in this childlike acceptance of the power placed on tongues.

The adults in the room know of the mysteries hidden in plain sight in THE WORD. The mysteries known to the adults....the mature man and woman.....show the immaturity of the children (males/females) speaking gibberish....without offence.

Think little children (males/females of Gen 1) learning to talk .....and how cute it is.....but it is not carried into matured adulthood (man/woman of Gen 2).

No.. tongues must be learned ... by your choice.. please put your scriptures away and think. Most of the bible is NOT truth and then your lousy ministers play up the false shit. I have heard people talk in "tongues" and its garbage.

there are only 7 gifts of Mother Spirit/Holy spirit.. they are things like courage.. wisdom and such and you have to manifest and learn them.. they are not gifts in that regard..

The HOLY SPIRIT is evolutionary mind briefly explained.. it is 3rd person trinity. It is NOT your FATHER which all humans with normal mind have and it does not give you speaking in tongues either. You are going to be educated on the how it is as part of the Millennial Reign of Christ Jesus... and its in the Urantia Book.. what the TrINITY is... All life has the HOLY SPIRIT beloved... cats.. dogs... fleas ... frogs.. trees .. all of it.

I assume you know trees don't speak in tongues. LIFE IS IN THE SPIRIT.. 3rd Person Trinity Mother Spirit on these worlds.

The question is do we enjoy a child learning to get there speech?

Of course we do!

Do we understand what they are saying ..... NO...not until the learn to talk properly.

OP... do as GOD instructs us, as the body of Christ, to "rightly divide the word of truth". Paul is the ONLY apostle for the gentiles...not Peter, not John, not James not even Christ's earthly was to us gentiles... Christ's earthly ministry was to bring in the kingdom and the priesthood, that is why Jesus commanded Peter and the other 11 not go to the gentiles or Samaritans, because in order to be a priest, you had to be "pure" Hebrew.

Israel rejected this commission and killed the king...the Gospel of grace was brought to the world through the apostle of the Gentiles, Paul. The "mysteries" of GOD were only revealed to Paul... the "priesthood" (Israel) has been blinded to these truths until the "fullness of the Gentiles has come in" (the calling out of the body of Christ). That is why Paul is the ONLY apostle that speaks of rapture... it doesn't apply to the priesthood... Christ told the 12, they were going to go through the great tribulation... Peter was looking for tribulation, Paul was looking for rapture... see the difference in relationships

Don't mix the messages... Christ spent just as much time (3 years) with Paul as he did with the 12 during his earthly ministry. 2 very different messages to 2 totally different groups of people. One under law, one under grace. GOD is NOT the GOD of confusion... once you separate, "rightly divide" these messages, the confusion evaporates and you begin to realize how big our GOD is...

Tongues in the scriptures were languages -- actual languages. Unintelligible tongues are not from the Ruach.

I have no minister but Jesus and his Father who are one. I attend no church, I am not among them, I sit ALONE among men, an outcast, hated by all... why think ye that you know me? I am not catholic, christian, jew, greek, pentacostal, apostolic... nothing, I am a child of god through Jesus the christ of god, that is it.

Do you even think that I think those mumblers are speaking in tongues? I do not, on that... I agree with you!

Do I speak to my god in tongues unknown? I do... yet NONE will hear it for it is between mt Father and I.
